What Should I Insure It For Now??

No. They don't operate in Canada. And, before anyone asks, the actual appraisal will be between me and The Accountant (that's the Mrs., folks).

Oh Boy.......:duh

I would insure it for enough to make yourself whole. With a little extra, for beer, to cry in.

I'm insured by Grundy as the agent and the policy is written by Chubb Group. I don't think there is much difference in premium between a BB and a SB. I insure my '66 for $65,000 and my '60 for $50,000, both agreed value. The '66 is a 427/390 and the '60 is a 283/230. I carry $500,000 liability insurance on both because an umbrella policy I have requires that as a minimum. The '66 costs me $402.50 a year. The '60 costs me $345.00 a year. The $57.50 difference probably has to do with the difference in agreed value rather than the difference in cubic inches. Me? I'd charge more for the '60 with it's drum brakes! :W I dropped Great American previously because they would only insure my '66 for $48,000 and wanted $367/yr for that. By the way. The coverage on the '60 went down to $345 from $360 upon renewal this year with Grundy. :D
I do not recall if Grundy asked me about modifications but I'd give those folks a call. They were very easy to deal with. American made me jump through hoops to buy insurance. They even required signed statements from my two sons evidencing their understanding that they were not covered if they drove the car! Since one of them was away at college that was a real hassle. I talked to Grundy's reps at Carlisle and decided to make the switch. Give them a call and tell them what you've got. They can probably give you a quote over the phone. :blue: www.grundy.com

Just remember that famous quote
"about the price of a new Z06"

Might not want the Mrs, to know the value,

Not to get this off the topic But since the last telivised Barret Jackson Auction in Scottsdale and the visitors I had in spring.the wife looks at the cars a lot different then she has done in the past. She has never asked what it cost to buy them or build them,So it was quite a shock to her to know how much these cars are going for.
As a matter a of a fact we were coming home from a car cruise on Wensday night,And I was introducing the rear taillights of my 66 to a modified trams am and the 66 got got REAL loose in the 2nd to 3rd shift, she saw it all and when we got in to our driveway she just Said " thats alot of money to lose to bad driving"

So Im thinking (bad driving lets see her keep a car straight at about 90mph while the back end is trying to pass me) But in stead I said your rite,Normally she would just say "eventually your going to get a ticket"

So my advice is, If the Mrs doesnt need to know, save her the pain and anquish of having to worry about it. Keep the apraisel to yourself and the insurance underwrighter.

Good luck

Ok Tom,
I undestand. Now ...This Thread Is NOT ABOUT AGREED Vs STATED... I don't want to start that up... :L Last time that thread grew a Monster Head...:W

My car is now under Classic Insurance and is Insured for Around $30K. I don't have Hagerty now but I will call them as well as a few other Classic insurance Companies to get a rate on.....(And this is what I will tell them) A 65 Corvette with a GM Crate Motor and freshly rebuilt frame.

Ahhhhhh..Ok..I'd like to insure my car for $50,000.00 ....What do you think they'll say.......Ok There Mr. VNV that'll be $400.00 a year with no milage limitations Full coverage with "AGREED VALUE".......

Well thank you there Mr Insurance guy.....:L

Mark

I will again give some unsolisited advice here. You must be forth coming and not skate around there questions.what they are acepting the risk on is what you tell them. And if you are not honorable you may be un insured. To better understand my train of thought I just dont insure for the minor fender bender,(these I can pay out of pocket or the insure company will pay no questions asked)

I always purchase insurance for the "catastrophic event" meaning something real bad has happened and I need protection .At that point the insurance comapny first looks at why they should not pay. Car use incorrectly, not saftley maintained, not as originally insured .So use caution on this. Its better to be properley insured then to save a few hundred yearly.

But that just my personal opion.

And in case you were thinking this

No I dont sell insurance,I am just a simple heat and A/C guy who is actively invoulved in my industry and here horror story of folks being under insured or improperly insured and lose every thing they worked there entire lives for to save some money on insurance.

Mark, I agree with Larry on this. Don't try to hide anything regarding your changes to the car to try and save a few dollars on your premiums. If anything happens and you have to put in a claim they won't pay out if they feel you weren't completely upfront and honest about your car and it's description. Let's face it, that BB502 isn't just "any" GM crate motor. If they don't know what you really have in the car and you put in a claim they may feel you were trying to deceive them and probably won't pay.
As Larry said, insurance is really for the "catastrophic event" and hopefully that never happens to you but if it does that isn't the time to find out they refuse to pay because they feel you weren't completely honest about changes you made to the car.

The NCCC magazine Blue Bars advertises a company called Leland West. They say agreed amount coverage included. You can obtain quotes online. Give them a try. lelandwest.com cant hurt to compare :beer

I also see your in NJ. I have my 74 and 77 Mark V insured with American Collectors Insurance. They are in Cherry Hill, NJ. If you cant find them in the book, PM me and I'll give you their 800 number. They do agreed value also.

ok, I made a classic error by simply reporting my car's year and my premium quote - cannot look at those and simply compare, you need to also know that I live in a low crime town in a low cost insurance state (NJ has the highest auto rates) and I am 42 with NO points (stopped plenty, but no points) and my car is bone stock 65 L76.

Terry, out of curiousity I did an online quote with Grundy this morning on my '65. listed the value at $50k with $300k liability and both comp and collision.
The rate was reasonable (approx $365/yr) but it mentioned it covered nothing for property damage or uninsured motorist! I'll have to recheck my other qiotes for other companies I had gotten but I'm pretty sure at least Haggerty and a few others cover those things. If you are with Grundy does your policy cover PD and UIM?

Dude.... I would never BS the Insurance Co. I would only be hurting myself at the time of a major claim. I'm sure they'll want pic's of the car and the engine compartment as well as all the work I have done. It's all Photo documented.

My previous post was just my way of joking. In the real world tha's not me. I did go out to Grundy'a web page and received an on line quote.... but they quoted me with out..Bodily Injury.../...Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist/..and also .no Property Damage... ...Why did they do that??

They quoted me for Comp And Collision and Liability..Total Quote..$360.00 .
I'll have to call them and see what's what...
