Looking for some help I looked @ an 86 this A.M. very low miles 42,000, good paint, interior ok carpet in hatch area needs replaced, the antenna does not work, needs to have valve gaskets replaced, weather stripping is on its last leg, tires are pretty new.left the dealer with him offering it at 7300 but said it was not a stopping point either.what could I realisticly offer for this?6900 or could I possibly even get it cheaper?

Welcome to the forum :w From your description, I'd say 6,000 at the outside. If this is the first vette you've looked at, I'd keep on looking and forget about this one. If you are limited to that price range, try to find one private sale with decent records. They are iut there. You may have to travel a bit.

Wetherstriping = from $900-$1250 + time or labor to install.
Antenna = PITA and $50 on up.

You would probably be better off with an 87 unless this car has the aluminum heads which the later 86's and all the verts did. Keep looking unless it's a proven one owner car with good records or you can take it for around 5. Make the dealer give you a carfax report :beer

i have an ealy '86 and when i bought it i paid $10,500 for mine. it had 48k miles and it was immaculate! interior had many extras from ekler's, paint was very good, and the engine had/has about $2-3k in chrome and powder coating. it also has both tops and every option except for the G92 {dammit!} weather stripping is also in great condition. in my opinion try to stay away from the dealers when buying!! they pay almost nothing for any car they buy/trade. spend a few months looking on line and in the vette trader. you'll find one! good luck.

last month I bought an 85 with new paint (I saw it before it was painted no real body work just dead paint) for $5200 from a dealer, it had 120000 miles but engine/trans are in great shape for being almost 20 years old, the interior: the doors and visors are not good and some plastic around the hatch are not great. just food for thought.

I bought an 86 for $2,500, pay what you want if you like it,eng and trans was good rear bearing shot.Paint ok.;)
