Obviously 1988, but what years of overdrives will work in 1988 without major mods?

For example, will a 1986 OD work in 1988, what modifications would be needed to make it work?

Not sure on interchangability, but from what I gather, the earlier the O/D unit , the more problems encountered. When I got my 88 w/4+3O/D, I dumped the fluid in the O/D, cleaned the magnet which was blanketed, ran it for a few hundred, dumped it again and I've had no problems. I changed the set up from stock, O/D comes in when you hit 4th gear after every restart, cancel it and it's gone until you hit the O/D button, every thing else is the same , kickdown, etc. Taking the computer assisted O/D out makes the car more fun to drive...................Have Fun..........

Thanks muddywaters. Great info and interesting on new set up. Did you change computer or what?

Any others on interchangability?

No, I did not change computer, what I did was jumper a switch on the transmission. Now the O/D does not come in needlessly, which saves on wear and tear.
