to C5 prices when the C6's come out?

Are you guys expecting the C5's to take a temporary hit because of the debut of the C6? I'm thinking that quite a few C5 owners will trade in their C5's because they want that C6.

Any thoughts?

My dealer, and every other dealer, is dumping 2004 Vettes as fast as they can for 7-10K under sticker. They want to move as many as they can now so they can get a bigger 2005 allocation. If a C5 is what you're looking for, now is the time to buy and if you're trying to sell a C5, now is not a good time.

Prices on all newer cars go down, there are no exceptions it's a fact of life. Eventually they will become more stable and probably start to appriciate. You can wait until you feel prices have bottomed out or buy now. I personally bought the best, newest I could affort. Now I am having a blast in my 98, M6, Z51 loaded coupe only 11k, just purchased this past July. Supply, demand, mileage, condition, will determine C5 prices as the C6 show up at dealers. I plan to keep my C5 for a very long time,( maybe my last purchase) so if prices do go down, I am still having a blast. As I can recall, when I purchased a new 78 C3, I drove it for 3 yrs and 30K, I sold it for only $300 less than my original purchase price. Not bad for driving 3yrs and only $100 depreciation per yr. The C5 will probably become a collectors car in 10-15yrs. :beer

The longer you keep it the better the value. History has shown us that most limited production and/or high performance cars are good long term investments. Don't feel bad about the C5's $ value going down. The fun value will always be very high. My C5's value is still much better than my Enron stock or my Y2K millennium survival bunker.

C5 prices are dropping like rocks.

Too bad the trade in value of my C4 is dropping just as fast.

Too bad late model Corvettes are UN-limited production. GMs gonna build every one thay can sell, thats why a new C5 can sticker at over 50 grand and be worth 35 on a trade the very next year.

I'm already seeing C5 aftermarket parts coming off of people's low mile C5s in anticipation of trading them in. So look for lots of cheap C5 performace parts as well as C5s. GM has really screwed the pooch on this one. They are even going to jam up the aftermarket guys as well as their own dealers. The near future used Corvette buyers will be the big winners. That is if they hold on to their purchases and enjoy the hell out of them for a few years. I looks like $10-15K is the price of driving a new covette for one year. (That's not including service, insurance and gas.)That's an average of about $33.00 a day. It kind of makes you feel like a millionare playboy. It's only money and you can always get more money. Beside it's still cheaper than a lot of things. Like a crack habit or an ex-wife or an ex-wife with a crack habit.

For my own selfish reasons, I would like to see the C5 prices take a temporary dive when the C6 hits showroom floors because I want to Z06 my driveway. :D

I just bought my 04 Z06 for $5500 under MSRP, I also traded in my other car (non vette- 03 MB CLK500 & got $44000 for it) also the 0% financing. I checked around & it seemed this is the best deal I could get. Heard on the forums some dealers were giving off up to 7k with no trade in. Did not hear about the 10K.

$5500 of the prices of a Z06 sounds like an awesome deal to me. I don't think the Z06 will be effected (discounted) as much as the Coupe.

I bought my used 2000 convertible (24,000 miles) almost by accident for this very reason 3 months ago. I've loved Corvettes as long as I can remember, but they were always just a bit more than I could really justify to myself spending. Was at a car show at the local Chevy dealer and this car was less than the new GTO I had been planning on buying. I threw on the GMPP and didn't look back. Just saw the GTO at the LA auto show, wife and I both agree this was the right decision. Yeah, values are dropping some, but the depreciation will stabilize, and it is one heck of a phenomonal car to own and drive.

Not on a Z06 anyway. Base coupes are getting the biggest discounts. Kerbeck is showing $8000 off sticker on their website.

C5 prices may fall, but I'm going to keep my 03 for a long time... I took a museum delivery and what an experience. I'd like to add a 67 roadster now as a complement to the 03...

Checked the site, giving $5976 (+$2000 if you take the rebate) or with 0% financing off the Z06, $476 better then my deal but my dealer gave me $44000 on my trade where other dealers gave me an offer at best $42300. Guess I did good.

I bought my used 2000 Convertible about 18 months ago. It's worth less today, but I am enjoying every dollor spent. I plan to keep it for a long time. The only way I will get a C6 Convertible is if I hit the lottery.

I think your right.. At the star it may bring the prices down but over time they will comoe back some and stabilize

So dealers aren't marking Z06's and convertibles down as much as coupes eh? Darn, I was hoping to jump onto the Z06 ship this fall! :(

What about the pre-owned market. How much does everyone expect the pre-owned Vette's to command as compared to previous years?

Owning a C5 now is a little like watching the stock market fall over the past two years. One took a beating only if they attempted to liquidate. If one stood on their portfolio and just let it ride like I did, then very little was lost.
The same could be said about the C5 models, as long as one continues to drive and enjoy them, they will never lose their true value. It's when one goes to trade it in just to have the latest model year that the monetary realization hurts. :cry
So that's it in a nutshell, drive it :Steer enjoy it :v , and don't be concerned on how the new models will affect the monetary value.

Here are my thoughts,

Unless you buy a vintage car, most new cars will depreciate.
(big time the first year)

They are not good investments and should not be bought as one.

I bought my '99 and '01 roadsters brand new.
The minute I drove them off the dealer's lot, they depreciated about 8K.
I enjoyed the '99 and have enjoyed my '01 since I got it and don't worry about it's depreciation. It was expected.

I occupy my leisure time enjoying my vettes.

My appreciation/enjoyment outweighs the car's depreciation.

Having said this, my wife recently bought a pristine, low mileage '02 ZO6 and we saved a lot of $$ by not taking the initial "hit" on depreciation.

Buying "pre-owned" is one way to "cushion" the "hit".

Okay...I'm out of material!
