Z_OH_6,
I've changed my mind.....I don't want a ride in the Z on my next trip to Maryville.....what part of the Dragon can you do 110? Maybe on the road beside the lake before you get up in the hills???
68Roadster, if 110 can be done on the Dragon it certainly won't be by me. Way too dangerous. That part of this thread was all tongue-in-cheek. In all seriousness, the patrols have been stepped up this year, far beyond past years, due to the amount of accidents and the number of fatalities so far for the first 6 months of this year. Just adhering to the speed limits is excitment enough for me on the road. :upthumbs

Got just past the 160 mark in the Vette coming back from Vegas a few years ago. There was no traffic out, so I set the cruise at 120 for most of the rest of the drive back to Phoenix :D

Got up to just over 700mph on the way back from Tokyo once in a 747, but we had a 250mph tail wind! Imagine - 850k lbs doing 700 mph! That was the fastest I've ever gone to date.

Just to put this all in perspective, we are all moving at slightly more than 1,000 miles per hour as our planet rotates. But that's nothing compared to how fast we orbit the sun - at approximately 67,000 miles per hour! Excuse me, I think I need a dramamine.

The fastest car I have been in was when I was a teen. My cousin had a 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS. It had a 454, 5:13 rear end, Hurst Shifter 4 on the floor..... when he launched that thing... man, seemed like everything blurred and became solid.... like going to lightspeed or something....He also had a 1968 Chevelle that was even faster but he never took me for a ride in that one... He laid a patch of rubber the length of the street, going through all 4 gears.....

I think that's when I fell in love with muscle cars....

So, Claborn, how fast do you figure you were going? Or was it more the g-forces you hit on acceleration that got you hooked?

My fastest was coming out of Hardscrabble Pass into Westcliffe, CO. On the downhill side, with the straightaway, I had it to 138 MPH. Now that was an experience.

So where has BV been hiding. Did his mother take away his PC? ;LOL

And real nice work Tony!!!

Um, I don't think BV ever had a PC. He was just using the free one at the library and when they caught him surfing a web site of "questionable" material, they booted him off and sent the PC to hazmat. :L

Patrick,
I think it was the g's more so than the speed. I have no way of knowing how fast he was going. I do know that the force kept me pinned to the back of my seat....

Fastest I been was 140 in my Dads 84 911 Carrera coupe as a passenger. Hit the off ramp and went around it like we were glued to the pavement. I went 115 in my 77 Vette,120 in my 84 Vette and 130+ in my 87 GN playing with a Viper on the highway(he lost by 3/4 car length to the 130 mark when I said whoa!).

Also my Dad built an engine for a 65 Vette a friend owned that was dyno'd at 650HP. Was a 327 .030 with 13.5:1 CR Pistons(this is back in 78 when I was just a kid) had full roller valvetrain including a solid roller cam that was "smooth" idle. All I know is it would do 120+ in the 1/4 and you could not pull yourself out of the passenger seat when it was going full bore. No traction for launch but it was nasty.

a 327 damn!

In my Vette ... 140 ... leaving the Big Easy on I-55 bout 9 in the morning. My tire began to worry me so I slowed down ... went by a seafood truck at 127 and basically coasted across the bridge.

In my first car (68 Camaro 327 2sp) somewhere over 120 ... the needle just wrapped around. I swear that car would run neck and neck with my Vette now.

Other ... 85 Vmax ... about 160 on a long south Ga straight with no traffic. I just rolled into it coming down the hill two miles later I looked down and saw somewhere above 160 ... nice and smooth. Rolled out and cruised back to the house.

Holy sheet!!! Way to funny. ;LOL It does sound like him. ;)

Quickest street legal car I've ever been in is my own 71 BB Coupe. 11.79/126.0, on Drag Radials, a mix of pump gas and racing unleaded and with a full exhuast system. Oh, yeah, that was on a public highway at night with absolute timing. On a race track with drag strip traction and roll-out, the car's probably a couple of tenths quicker.

Fastest car I was ever in was the "Snake Skinner" a GM development car of the C4 era. Basically, it was a lightened up ZR-1 with a hot rod LT5 in it. John Heinricy was driving and I was shotgun...at 185 on the Milford Proving Ground's 4 mile straight...not once but twice.

So far, my blown Z. I hope to snag a ride in a TT Z next week at the Fest though!:)
