Hey guys...I have a question regarding the name of the sensor in the front of the intake on my 86...Its beside the coolant sensor that is controlled by the ecm...It has markings on it that say...12 volt...40 watt...what does this sensor also do. Another question is which sensor controls the gauge in the dash..is it the one between cyl.6 & 8...as my car has the b4p option.( aux. fan ) which I think is controlled by the sensor between cly. 1 & 3..please help..Thanks

The readout in the dash comes from the right head, the one between 6 & 8 as you stated. The left head sensor controls the auxiliary fan.

The one on the front of the manifold escapes me at the moment, and my books aren't at hand at the moment... ;shrug

thanks for the quick reply...my gm manual dosent give any kind of description of what this sensor actaully is....if you find anything out please let me knopw..thanks again..

Page 6E3-C1-6 in my shop manual shows the left sensor being a "coolant temp sensor" and the right sensor being a "thermal time switch," whatever that means... but can't find any details on how to test it or what it does. Sorry...

Dunno if we're talking about the same sensors... besides the two in the right and left heads, there are two sensors in the front of the intake manifold, just below the air bellows. One may be directly under the coolant pipe. I think those are the two he's asking about in the first part of his question.

The coolant temp. sensor in the front of the manifold gives you your guage reading. The Thermal Time Switch sensor next to it activates the Cold Start Injector when necessary by using the coolant temperature.
