My right-rear wheel bearing is a bit too loose, so it will be getting replaced. Any words of advice? Anything peculiar to look out for?

Joe

Just curious how you decided to replace your wheel bearing. You stated it was loose. I have been getting a clunking nosie it the rear of mine. Checked right wheel and there was what I thought excessive endplay from the rear differential. Would this endplay be caused by a worn wheel bearing?

There is excessive play in the wheel, and excessive noise, plus my mechanic says the bearing is bad, and I trust him to know what the problem is.

Make sure they us Made in the USA bearings!!!!!!!!!!!!
If possible have them do both sides.

Joe,

Is your mechanic familar with replacing rear bearings on a corvette? He will need specialized tools to disassemble and re-assemble the bearings/spindles. Both Hayne's and the Corvette shop manual have good written procedures.

How specialized? He has a bearing press, and such, but he's never done Corvette bearings.

Joe

Joe at the very least you should have the correct bearing spacer so that when the spindle is re-assembled the bearings are in the proper orientation. Consult a manual for the correct disassembly and re-assembly as they are somewhat of a unique set-up.
