Hi...new member here. I own a 1980 Shark and have the factory alum. wheels. I would like to ad the American racing Torq Thrust II rims...any advice on a vendor as well as the size. I would like to go wider...maybe 17's then add the Goodyear F1s. I know I would need the offset trailing arms, are there any other mods needed?

Torq Thrust 2's

Hi,

I have Torq Thrust 2's on my 1982 already. They are the polished alloy look rather than the "D" version which has anthracite spokes. They look very cool on the car.

My wheels are 15" diameter by 8" wide (stock size). The tires I am running are General XP2000 2's in 255/60-15 size. They fit perfectly with no rubbing etc.

I have the complete dimensions of these wheels (offset, etc) somewhere at home (I'm not there at the moment). And you can get these wheels in 17" size. In fact 6 months ago, I was talking to my supplier and he claims that they were just beginning to release 20" versions of these wheels!!!!

Cheers

Hi again...

Click my profile to the left to see a picture of my 82 with these wheels fitted. It's a small pic but it gives you a good idea of what it will look like.

The only trouble with bigger wheels (17" etc), is that I don't think you can many lo-profile tires with raised white letters. I wanted raised lettering as I think it really suits the C3 Corvette, so I went with a smaller wheel.

Hey MakoDRVR, Welcome to CAC!

I think the Torque thrusts and other like it are awesome, but for an extra special twist, check out my buddies at

www.hvydeez.com They do the www.introwheels.com series of rims.

They are the ones that set me up with my Intro Pentia wheels on my 69. Great folks to work with, and they are providing cutting edge wheels for todays modern retro/hot rod design.

You will find they are a pleasure to work with, and they know what does and does not fit a Vette. I could easily see you stepping into a 17x9.5 all the way around. They will send you the wheels with tires mounted and balanced right to your front door! All you have to do is bolt them on and figure out a way to pay for it!!!!!

OK...good info to have. Thanks guys. Chris, will I need to use the offset trailing arms to do 17x9.5s. Will the ones from Mid America work or should I go else where?

Thanks,
Chip

Here's another site for you to look at:

www.driverfx.com

Look under wheels
You can do a exact search for your Vette,
and the Rims that fit will Pop up with prices and spec's.

Prices seem pretty good also

It won't hurt to use them instead of the stockers. I got mine from VB&P.

-Chris and Chip--
I spoke with the folks at Heavy Deez, and they are very knowledgable. I was told that I could run 18x9 on the rear with stock trailing arms and no rubbing. For the fronts, we talked about 17x8, but that could change to 18x8 when it finally comes time to order. Either way, their wheels are top quality from what I understand. They are forged, not cast, making them strong. They are also very reasonably priced. I looked at 18x8 front and 20x10 rear in the Torque Thrust II, but after complaints of quality control and structure, I decided to pass. Whatever you decide, good luck!
