Hi

After reading many threads regarding problem after problem, when do you finally say "I'm packing it in and selling it!".

I really cannot believe how many problems my fellow vette owners have and others you don't hear a peep.

If l had a bad run l would get rid of it in a heart beat and cut my loses. That is why there is a word for it "LEMON" or has been abused.

So far l have not a single problem that wasn't correct during my first visit to a dealer after l picked up my vette over two years ago. And the problems were so small l didn't even know there were problems.

The only issue that l have had is that l have the run flat system without run flats on period.

Alan

p.s. I know my day will come.

Some of the vette owners like myself build a relationship with their car, and for me it is for better or worse. And even though I have had a lot of problems, there is no way I would sell mine unless I got an insane offer.

It's only a machine!!!!!!!!!!!

But l understand where your coming from. I had that relationship with my 68.

I have driven a lot of high milage cars. Often buy them with about 100 k on then and run them past 200k. There are periods where a car decides it wants things fixed, and it seems things like brakes, shocks, tires , and trans. all decide it is there turn at the same time.:eyerole It does seem that once you get through that , the car is good to go for a long while. You have to keep in mind that the body and interior condition and how well you like the car is part of the decision . I now have an 89 Riv with 211k on it , it is near that time again. The body is good. interior not bad and engine very good. I now have to make the decision weather to go for another 50 to 70k or find another 100k car. You have to evaluate your situation. The almighty dollar usually speaks for me. ;LOLI had a 98 Riv with 72k on it that I sold , was almost time for tires ,battery and a few other things. I didn't like the car that well so I dumped it. :w

If I could buy a new '77 Corvette at the dealer, I would. So, I gotta do what I gotta do. Besides, IT'S PAID FOR!

My opti spark is out as well as the water, anyoffers? Just kidding

Cars age, things break or don't work right any more. Just like people. The newest C4 you can buy is now nine years old, and the oldest is twenty-one. No car in the world is going to work perfectly for nine years, let alone twenty-one years. Even if you never drive the car, the leather seats age, gaskets dry out, refrigerant sloooooooowly trickles out of the a/c. Sometimes there are factory defects; even the brand new C6 is not without its demerits. A Corvette is a thing of beauty, but it's still just a machine, subject to the inherent failures of all machines. Bearings are surprisingly delicate; the bearing on my brand new AC Delco alternator blew up a few years ago. Sparks were shooting out of the back. No car is going to be 100% maintenance free.

Well said Tyrel.

So very true, these cars are not fixed in time and the modle moves on the C5 and now the C6 all better it seems than the previous modle, I have a c4 because that is what I could afford and I love this car, a geat pice of american Iron and I can get parts and lots of help Like this wounderful forum. Try that with a 10 year old mitsu VR4. Keep warm.

When someone gifts me with $250k so I can pay the house off and buy a C6 without worrying about finances, THEN I'll dump my C4. Until then, as photovette so aptly put it, it's paid for. I also feel better about performing surgery on a 19-yr old car instead of a 2-3 year old one.

EttevroC, what part of MD you in?

I bought my 95 without a driving test (Can you believe that), It had and it has problems. It looks that the previous owner drove over a fence or so and, the entire fron suspension needs to be replace. I love my C4 and my wife hates the fact I bought it while we are purchasing a home, I told the wife that the front door was open...

The vette and the wife stayed :CAC

There are no problems, there are mechanics and this forum

You are one brave mental case!

If l gave my wife that choice l would be sitting on my front porch with my dog and my pillow.

Alan

Without this forum, I would be a whole lot more frustrated because I would probably have to pay for much of the work I've done myself. Plus, you find out little tricks that make the job easier from people who hae already done the job in their garage. I really don't mind buying parts, it's paying for labor and the inconvenience of bringing it to a shop that would frustrate me enough to say; " That's it, I've had enough! ". I don't mention a lot of the problems I've dealt with because I can usually find whatever I need using the search feature. Sure, I have some problems, but if you read forums for other car owners, they have problems too! And of course, they don't have nearly as much fun driving as we do!

You betcha, if I came into the money the house would be paid for, my 1989 would be totally perfetified and I would have a matching C6 convertible parked next to it in a new 4 car garage. Ah, the dreams you can have when your snowed in…:crazy

I currently live in a blizzard, but when the snow stops blowing around enough to see the town sign, I think it says Thurmont. :blue:

Actually Thurmont is a very "Vette Friendly" kind of small town. First and foremost, the local Chevy dealer hosts a yearly Corvette show . Last June the show had about 30+ Vettes on display; a pretty good showing for a small town.

Thurmont also seems to be the stopping off point for many Vettes on their way to prowl the Catoctin Mountains or heading off to one of the many car shows up in Carlisle PA. During the summer weekends I get to see some real choice classics, custom and new Vettes parked at one of our many "Family Friendly" restaurants. I love living up here.

So if you are ever up in my neck of the woods, please feel free to let me know and if we are in town, my wife and I will treat you to a buffet dinner at one of these restaurants.

You'd get a pillow?

I firmly believe some people are destined or not to have luck at whatever.
Looked in the mirror many times.
Sure thankful for the good I do have.

I've been through/to Thurmont a number of times, though none within the last 10-15 years or so. We used to hike the Appalacian Trail, and I seem to recall a section from Thurmont to Penmar. Isn't there also a scenic railroad line somewhere nearby?

I'll let you know if we ever plan to head out that way; if there's a good Bed and Breakfast, that's one way to get my wife to visit someplace :).

Yes, in October a train runs from DC to Thurmont for ColorFest then heads on a scenic route through the mountains.

There are many B&B through out Thurmont and the mountains, since I live up here I haven't had the need to see how they are. Theres is one intown called "The Cinnamon House" that is very nice inside, I only know this because at Christmas time they open it up for the "Christmas Open House tour."

I guess I feel pretty fortunate that I don't have that problem, as you can guess from my stable. My wife loves the cars as much as I do. Her daily driver is a '95 coupe and that's her baby. She wouldn't trade it for anything, accept maybe for a yellow C-5 convertable. We were planning to buy a C-5 this year but decided to build a new house so we would have more room for our toys. Oh, and as far as trading the C-4....No way! We can't sell any of the Vette's, we just have to get more of them:D !
