Hello all,

I have an opportunity to buy a rear clip for a '59 Vette, but want to make sure it's original and not a repro- Are there any part numbers I can look for in the trunk area to verify that it is original?

If not, what are the chances it could be a repro rear clip?

Thanks,

CHEV66JB

If it is press moulded fiberglass, it has to be original. I do not believe that anyone has ever made the upper rear section in Press moulded other than the General!

Re: '59 part numbers

Thanks for the reply John-

I am a bit new to the C1 scene, so could you tell me what I would look for on the body to confirm it is in fact "press moulded"?

Thanks,

If the back side of the glass is about as smooth as the front, then it is press moulded. Hand laid glass will be very rough on the back side. Hand laid glass is made into a mould and the back is open to the air and by it's very design can't be very smooth. Press moulded parts are pressed between two matching dies leaving a very dense part that is smooth on both sides.

Re:

Thank you for the update, John-

If I were to send you a pic of the clip, would you be able to determine whether or not it seems to be original? I have not yet seen the clip in person.

I would be glad to look at it. Get some good pics of the backside of the glass as that will tell the tale.
