1971 350 4 speed with air, ps, pb.

Coming out of the firewall directly in front of the driver into the engine compartment is a green and red looking set of wires that hook together at the end. They need to be plugged into something, but I cannot see anywhere to plug them. Just above,at the very top of the firewall, and the exact correct distance away, is a place to plug in, but no room for another plug to go. By the way, my instrument and gauge lights are not working as well. Maybe the two are related in some way?

JohnZ says that these wires go to the back-up lights on a 4speed. I wonder if this plug had a home if my dash lights would work as well?

I have to order manuals.:eyerole

What do you mean by "hook together" My red and green come into a common plug, but are not actually "together". They just end up in the same "L" shaped plug (for the reverse lights)

That's exactly what I am trying to describe. It exactly.:TALK

Yeah mine doesnt go anywhere either. I studied it and found them to be the reverse lights, so I jumped the two wires out and whalla, the reverse lights come on. (I didnt leave them jumped out, and made sure what they were before I jumped them so I wouldn't create a short) Someone said they didnt use those on 4-speeds(I think thats what I read) but I was thinking I saw a reverse switch that mounts on the tranny. Looking through some of my catalogues, but haven't found it yet.

In my "corvette world"catalog, on page 199 I found a 4 speed back-up switch for a muncie 4 speed(only problem is they only show the brackets and stuff you can order, not the switch, but does show a picture of it);shrug

They make one-corvette central has one part#593105 for 68-78 with manual transmission. Where you would find the cable that runs from the plug under the hood down to the tranny I dont know, might have to make one. Good luck.

The switch (item "A" in the Doc's illustration) comes with the harness and connector already on it that routes up the tunnel and dash and plugs into the connector that's hanging there now.

If this is the plug, then driving the car without it plugged in will pose no problems as long as you are not backing up. Then the only problem will be no backup lights. No big deal. Just crawl under and plug the lights in and it should work if the existing switch is good.
