Where Would there be a good place to put switches in my 78? I am looking by the gauges and surrounding areas. But any one else have and good ideas? Gonna use the for a P.A. System and a few other items. (neons) Don't hate me for loving neons :)

I got a great place to put switches.....its just not in your 78 vette. Dont ruin a beautiful car please. Sell your vette and go buy a civic. They have plenty of room for switches and you wont be guilty of ruining a beautiful car, youll just be guilty of bad taste.
And a P.A. system???? WTF

It's your car, do what you want.

...but don't ever expect a good resale value if you canibalize it.
Find the most out of the way place you can. I am also curious about the PA system...what in the world for?

84Vette,

If you wish to add switches etc without getting nasty. (please be nice to the vette)

You have quite a bit of usable space below the steering wheel. Mount a nice little plate attached to the already provided moulding screws and your in buisness. (I did this for my after market driving/fog lamps)

That would be if you want to see your toggles, if not, then mount them behind the drivers/passengers seats, again on a plate which you can easily mount just under the rear lip, and run your wires up under the center conosle back to the fuse panel/engine compartment. (did this for the aftermarket alarm system 2 toggles)

Now a PA?? if ya dont mind what the heck for?

Bill

Gauges.....

Most people start to get upset when a Corvette resembles a civic. And, if done tactlessly- IT WILL.

I assume that you really want to REPLACE gauges with ones that are more reliable. Ok- that works. 69MyWay has done that - check his ride out. You just measure the center console provisions and then ored the appropriate gauges. Rmember that Rome wasn't built in a day. Neither will your Vette.

Toggle switches can be mounted on a board inside the glove box. If you only have a few, I suggest drilling into the trim peice under the steering wheel. This will keep you from ruining your dash and instead you'll ruin only a $40 part.

Granted I HAVE SEEN SOME "TACKY" CORVETTES. Its all up to what you want it to be. Its YOUR car. However, over-the-top subtlety is what really makes a modified Corvette special.

Seriously- what do you ned a PA system for? If its to yell at those import guys then I AM ALL FOR IT! Just kidding..... maybe....

P.A. System For some fun while not driving ever talked to people while they were walking by? :) It is funny to see thier reactions.

Any way no don't want new gauges. nah atm waste of money i Don't have :(

I like the idea about in the glove box really good place to hide them.

When I modifiy cars I want them to look as close to stock as it can. So it doesn't end up looking like a P.O.S

You could remove the ashtray and mount 1 or 2 rocker switches. Trim them down so the ashtray door will close and you'll at least have them hidden so not to detract. Plus, having them hidden is kinda cool. Secret switches if you will...

Otherwise, you could fab some holes in the center armrest, towards the back of the e-brake.

Essentially, anywhere along the center console make wiring easy and it won't look too aftermarket if it's done without chopping up everything and using appropriate switches.

I think the USA came out with a law that it is illegal to put neon lights on a Vette. Switches in the glovebox is a great idea. But I defintely think you need a Civic or some other ricer for those lights. Just my .02

C'mon guys, it would be really cool to drop some small neons in the sidegill area of the vette behind the front tires. That would be wicked cool to have the soft glow pouring out of the opening.

I don't like them just under the rocker or rear bumber though.

You want to go with a flat rocker style so that you can blend it in better.

The driver door panel does give you some options, as well as using the area to the left or right of the center gauges on the center gauge panel.

You could also put them in the center T-top area if you get some nice flush mount models.

Hope that helps.

Hmmm...interesting. Maybe that would look kinda cool. I think placing the light so you couldn't see it from any angle, yet still have it illuminate out the grill would be difficult. You could possibly pull it off with some focused LED's though. I may have to do some Adobe Photochop and see what I come up with. Not that I'd actually do it, as my mechanic would disown me! :L

Good Ideas!! I Definatly like the whole ashtray thing b/c i don't smoke so it is pretty much use less. But it does make a good cell phone holder.

Neons Chris you under stand the art of puttign on neons. That it all i am doing on the outside. On the inside i will probly put one in the foot wells and maybe in the center air duct. Evolution if you use aluminum tape it will direct useless light to where you want it so it really comes in handy when wanting to hide neons and illuminate big areas

i agree with moe, i think it it illegal to put neons on a muscle car.......but if you do put neons go all the way put fart pipe too lol j/k :)

...and just remember, that yellow neon has a lower drag coefficient than the red neons.
...although under the hood, red plug wires add about 1-2 HP over blue wires. :L :L :L :eyerole :L :L :L

i think i heard some ricers say that they have seen more power gained when they went to red spark plug wires from any other color, but the best way for them to gain power is to slap apc stickers on the car, each sticker guaranteed 20 hp to the wheels

Oh I must have forgot to mention the BIG Spoiler i am putting on that alone should bump up the horses by 15-20 :L Now Which color wires do i want? Doh Forgot about those stickers how dumb of me. BAH!! How could i forget such an important part of the car

we're just kidding ..............but post pics when you're done i've never seen neons on a Vette so i dont know what to expect........good luck cheers:beer

OK-

SO ITS ALL GM'S FAULT-

If the General hadn't supplanted REAL muscle cars with econ-boxes we wouldn't be in this quandry with "to rice or not to rice" discussions.

We have to take a stand- JOIN ME ON MY SOAP BOX- THERE'S ROOM FOR ALL OF US! (Place moment of Oscar-stealing monologe of mania here____________)

Take back your neon-
Take back your overkill of Japanese letters-
Take back your carbon fiber hoods for civics that carry 500lbs in stereo gear-
TAKE IT ALL BACK!!!!

BUILD MORE BIG BLOCKS, RAT MOTORS AND TPI TERRORS-
THROW AWAY ALL THE 4 BANGERS AND SUPPLANT THEM WITH 350s-
MAKE HUGGER ORANGE A NATIONAL COLOR-
DECLARE ZORA'S BIRTHDAY A FEDERAL HOLIDAY-

THREATEN TO "SEPARATE" YOUR GARAGE FROM THE "UNION" IF THEY DON'T COMPLY-

rant, rant, rant......

He he he!

I think its great to put neon on a vette! a new concept on an old car. and when i get my vette i gotta find a spot to put my neon switches, and if a 96 has an ashtray (it should have one, right?) then i will put mine there, so it doesnt ruin the cars look. (and it would prevent people from smokin in my vette too :cool) plus its your car, and you should do what you want to it, because im sure you didnt buy it to sell it for a profit, you bought it to customize, and have fun and make it YOUR vette. But i cant imagine what your gona do with a PA box, whatever it is, im sure it will turn heads though :L

And BTW, ive seen Corvettes with spoilers. IMHO i dont think it looks to good. But i have yet to see stickers and japanese characters on a vette. but what about a shark sticker on a shark? it would be showing knowlege, that the guy knows he has a shark, and is damn proud of it!
DECLARE ZORA'S BIRTHDAY A FEDERAL HOLIDAY
I would support that!

So basically, a Shark with Neon might look like this.
