Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

Where will the latter C 3's be in 5-10years.

I think the latter C3s ('75-'82), since they are not highly regarded (i.e.; no big-blocks, catalytic converters, no power, etc.) by supposed 'true' Corvette aficianodos, will never be worth the prices gotten for C1, C2, or even 'chrome-bumper sharks', and that's OK, too. The pre-'74 sharks are worth so much, few are driven, just for the sake of BEING driven! Latter sharks were built in large numbers, and they'll survive in large numbers, too. Due to being worth 'less' than their elder brothers & sisters, they're more likely to be 'modified and rod-ified', auto-crossed and drag raced. Their 'low' prices allow them to be many Corvette-lovers 'first' Vette; they've become 'EVERYMAN'S" Corvette! Because of this, the general public, and REAL Corvette lovers, will always associate the latter C3s (and be able to actually 'see' them on the roads of America) as the most popular (and plentiful) Corvettes of all. But, what do I know; I drive a Cross-Fire!!!!!

Late C3 Prices

Will the late C3 prices rise, fact is....they already have.

In 1993 I paid $7700.00 for my "Fair " 1981 Coupe.
Just for the fun of it,
I went to www.collectorcartraderonline.com

I searched all 81 Corvettes, and added up the first 50 cars selling prices.
Those averages came to $14,340 with the breakdown below:
Below 5000 grand: 1
Between 5 - 10 grand: 6
Between 10 - 15 grand: 25
Between 15 - 20 grand: 12
Above 20 grand: 6
(Notice the bulk are between 10 and 20 grand)
I also used the AVERAGE PRICE CHECK tab and got their numbers for the 400 cars listed:

Low: $3500, High $34, 995, Average: $11,000

All this info for 81 model years alone. If I'm reading this info correctly, my $7700 Vette has increased in price to $11000, up $3300 in 10 years (not counting new stuff: paint, interior, exhaust, tires, etc., etc., etc....)
Adding those in, coupled with the Trophies (status effect) I've won at car shows, I think I'd be closer to the 14k range.
So, in general, my car's price has doubled in 10 years.
IMHO, That's a pretty good price increase for me. :D :D :D

In closing: The C3's will probably never demand the prices of C2's.
Production numbers alone are difference, that's all.
As for the "smog effect" later C3's, that's O.K. to, what they don't have under the hood, they make up in looks and style.

long lasting thread

just had to reply to my own thread again to bump it back to the top.

My predicition is the latter C 3 's will increase in value and the more time passes the more valuable they will become due to car being used as parts cars and cars being wrecked.

Lack of performance is always going to hold the latter C 3 back, styling and looks will never outweigh performance.

Performance is always the bottom line on corvette collectability.
