After the recently completed paint job on my 66 coupe, had the professionals install the new windshield (couple months back). Gave it a good bath last night and discovered major water on the front floor. New rubber seal looks fine. Was not there for the install so, don't know if any sealant was used. Have not installed the trim yet. Any other source of leaks - air vents in front of windshield, etc?? All suggestions appreciated.

Steve

my '65 is about the leave the paintshop in a few days (hopefully!) and we just reinstalled the windshield on Friday. I had leaks before and I'm hoping the new clean channel, new gasket, etc will solve that problem (same on rear glass of my coupe which leaked like a sieve)
The AIM does not call for any sealant on the windshield as it does on the rear glass.

One area that I'm told to look at also is under the windshield wiper grills in those "boxes". I belive that if there are any cracks in the fiberglass there that the water runs down and the carpet acts like a wick sucking it up and making the floor wet. Also, check that the drainage holes behind the freshair vents are not blocked. if they are they hold the water in, it builds up and leaks inside.
These are the areas I'm aware of but there might be others. If so i'm sure people will chime in

Thanks Barry - I am leaning more towards the air intakes rather then the windshield myself. I will check those areas tonight. Been following your progress. Won't be long now. I hope to have mine back on the road in about a month. Just not enough time.

Steve, check the gaskets/sealant around your windshield wiper motor and transmissions also. They are prone to leakage.
Check to make sure your right and left air vents aren't clogged up with debris covering their drain holes.

Thanks Paul - also good ideas - hadn't thought about the other side of the firewall. On my list for tonight.

Lots of times as was mentioned is that the water is being diverted because of the drain holes being blocked and it pours in thru the fresh air vents. Another possibility is that the soft sealant that was used to bond the firewall pleneum has become hard. Seam sealer is used to rectify this problem. If you run the hose so that the water runs directly into the vents behind the hood and you have water running out of your fresh air vents this is more than likely the problem if your drain holes are not blocked.. Dave.

Nope, definitely will come from the windshield. AFAIK the process of glass production has been changed and new glass has approx. 1mm less in thickness but still the rubber is for the old glass as well. That requires sealant to be applied anyway. However, the lower part of the frame needs to be sealed completely as the AIM hints.

BTW.....I have just done it.
