I'm the new custodian (my 1st Vette) of a 76 with an L48. You may have had this question a hundred times, but is the K&N air filter that much better than any of the others? I need to do a replacement soon and was thinking if I should consider the K&N or something other than stock.

Thanks

K&N

Personally I like my K&N. I mainly just like to say that I have a K&N under my hood, but I did notice an improvement in my performence. Another great thing is that you can clean them and they have a good warranty or at least they did when I got mine.

When I replace my filter, I'll be going with a K&N. Honestly, I don't even really care about the possibility of a couple horses - I mean, that's not that big of a deal. However, the ability to clean the filter rather than just replacing it will make it pay for itself in short order. Plus, the construction quality is high, so there is less risk of a torn filter allowing debris into the engine than with a bargain-basement brand.

I have the whole K&N she-bang

The 14x4 or x6, with the X-Stream lid, K&N Oil Breather, K&N Oil Filter....

All seem to work well....

I had to modify the under side of the plate on one side of the carb filter and the filter slightly to clear the hose fitting to the carb without kinking, and this was easily done with needle noses with the K&N because of its wire mesh backing.

I still need the flow straightener to have "the whole deal."

I guess all that ran about $180, but it does breathe well, although I'd like cool air brought in to it rather than just maximum amounts of whatever's under the hood.

I believe the Accel or Holley blue colored one is equivalent, but haven't tried them. It seems to me it only makes sense to minimize intake and exhaust restrictions on anything wherever possible, and this set-up is rated at something like twice the flow rate of the carb....

K&N on my 1981 & VaraRam on my 2000 ...

K&N

I like the K&N Filter.. I don't see any problems with usuing them on a carb'd setup.. but when it comes to a FI setup with a MAF sensor just remmber not to over oil the filter after cleaning.. I catch alot of flack at the shop because I like using K&N because 1st they may have better air flow, but 2nd I like the re-usuable factor.. the reason why I catch so much flack is because, alot of the techs I hang around with think that the oil from the filter ends up on the MAF hot wire and causes in accurate air flow readings which can cause poor performance and driveability.. but you can always clean the MAF sensor even if you over oil it but I don't reccomend it if you havn't done it before due to the cost of a new MAF sensor.. so anyway..

Yes highly reccomend the K&N!
