As a birthday gift to myslelf, I am going to get some editing software for my ECM. Here are the details that I need to consider.

1. My car already has been reprogrammed by Ed Wright. Can I overwrite his program?
2. My car has a LT1 block, but everything else is LT4. Does this affect which type of software I get?
3. My laptop is old and slow running windows 98. Does this affect which software I get?

SO! My question is this: Which one would you recommend?

Well,

I would suggest LT1 Edit, which I believe is also usable for the LT4.

You can also get Tunercat which does the similar stuff.

As far a Ed Wright's program, unless he masked it, you should be able to read it.

EDIT: LT1 block should not matter. I haver never used LT1 edit so I cannot comment on it, but I have used TunerCat (www.tunercat.com) on WIN98, Win2K and WinXPwithout troble on any

I've used LT1 Edit for over 3 years now on three different platforms, Win 98, Win ME, and now XP Pro with no problems. You won't need anythig fast due to the slow speed the data on the serial bus.

Ed usually swaps the file around so you won't be able to read it. You may want to go to the LT1 Edit bulliten board and see if your file can be read.
Also check out www. schube.com for info.

If you have An OBD II system, you will need LS1 Edit instead.

Good luck,

What happens if I cant read it? Do I get a new ECM?

If you can't read your file, you can get a file from someone else and upload it to your PCM. You will lose the Ed Wright program though.

I was affraid of that. I have no experience in this so I am a little worried about screwing something up.

Probably the best thing to do is get the software and spend time on the bulliten boards before you make any changes.
Then start making little changes.
I always keep copies of previous files and good records of what was changed so I can always reload an earlier file.

There is always a risk that something can go wrong, but that's the case whenever you work on your vehicle.

Best of luck.
