Hi Guys, and Gals,
Being in the middle of another long Upstate NY winter, all I can do is make plans of what changes I would like to make to my pride and joy as soon as the weather breaks. I have decided on AFS ZR1 chrome spoke wheels, and would also like to do something with the exhaust system.
The factory mufflers are fine, and I enjoy being able to hear the stereo while driving, but I would like a little more rumble, a little less back pressure and more performance without wearing ear plugs or going totally broke! any suggestions?
Thanks... signed; Freezing in NY

Exhaust

I just put on magnaflows a few weeks ago. They give a nice rumble at idle and great roar when you get on the gas and give very little resonance when cruising.
The way I made my decision?
I went to a local corvette cruising club and asked tons of questions about all the different types of exhaust the members had. I liked the magnaflows the best. The selling point: when I went for a ride in an 88 with magnaflows. loved the sound and the look.
It might be a barrier given your weather up there. But once it warms up,go for it.
good luck,
shane

Magnaflow! :_rock

I took JEFNLSA's advice and went with Magnaflows, and I love them! Exactly the sound and look I was after.

Which Magnaflows?

In the Corvette Central catalog there are multiple types of Magnaflows. Which did you install? I am interested in the system that they have with the crossover Y-pipe and the two outlet mufflers, (less expensive). (Not the shiny stainless catback system. More expensive) I was wondering how that particular system was.

hey, 91 black convertible

well, i went with true duals from the exhaust manifold with an x-pipe crossover and no cats at all. There is very little resonance with the x-pipe set-up. Magnaflows with the rectangular stainless tips .
works/sounds great!

You are so predictable when it comes to "which exhaust" discussion... :L

Cheers,

Hey..you're back! Haven't heard from you in a while. :w

I was on a business trip to Saudi Arabia. I am back now in Turkey.:w

I have Borla and really like them for the most part, I hear the resonance that gets mentioned, but not that bad, and I think they sound very good ... I would get them again....

I wanted to keep the stock look, but wanted a bit more rumble, so I had a pair of Flowmaster Super 40's installed. These are the black cased ones, not silver. I'm also having an X-pipe installed this coming Saturday weather permitting. Cost for the Super 40's, $260 total.

STRIAGHT PIPES!!!!

That's the route I went with my 85, through the cats and straight out!!!

Ron ..... :D

Exhaust (which one)

Thanks Everyone for the info, :upthumbs
Looks like Magnaflow are the choice of the majority!
Just praying now for a early spring!
Take Care, Paul

new magnaflows

Just installed new stainless magnaflows on my 94.It looks and sounds awsome. My wife wasn't to happy with me spending money to replace perfectly good mufflers, but after a few beers she says they look great!

When she sobers back up you'll be back in the same boat. She'll deny she said she liked them........... beer talking. :L

If you want all the things you are asking about, you have one choice....CORSA...period. Absolutely NO Reasonance at any speed/rpm. Quiet enough to hear the CD while cruising down the road, yet will let everyone know wihen you decide to "get on it". I posted a message sometime earlier about asking yourself some questions and one of those is Do you have a wife/so that rides with you regularly? Take her comfort into consideration, if she is uncomfortable with the sound you'll be uncomfortable (if you know hwat I mean). And things can escalate to it's a "me or it" thing.

Until the other day I'd never heard anything negative about the Corsa System but then a guy on another forum posted that he dynoed his car before and after the install with no other changes and gained a whopping 2 HP! I know making power isn't cheap but thought that was somewhat discouraging.
