Anyone dealt with White Racing Products?

I'm going to be buying a rebuilt transmission from them on Friday. I was just wondering if anyone here has ever dealt with them and if so what your experience was?

They are in Tampa, Florida.

Thanks,

-Dave C.

I bought a short shifter from them and was happy with my dealings with them. But I guess my experience isn't directly comparable to buying a tranny.

Kurt White is very well known among the ZR1 fraternity and on at least one of the other Corvette forums out there FWIW. HTH

I have heard positive things, but have not personally dealt with them. Did you get a good price? will the re-built tranny be built up a bit to withstand the power?

He said he wants $2500 plus my old one for the rebuilt unit. It's a stock rebuilt unit. I think the price is around the normal rate for the ZF, although I think the prices for the ZF transmission in general are extremely high and Chevrolet ought to be ashamed for using that tranny when the borg/warner in the Camaro would have been alot cheaper, and apparently more reliable.

I think that $2500 is the going rate for them. However, I've only been looking for a couple days. The Richmond is about $3200 new from what I've seen.

Thanks Rob...

It's bad enough having to spend that kind of money on a car I just bought, at least I know it shouldn't fail again if this guy is well repected.

Don't forget the ZF tranny was introduced in 1989 on C4's. (6 speed camaro came out in '93 if I remember correctly?) The really funny thing is the older ZF's were, and still are, considered to be some of the toughest tranny's around. The reason they 'upgraded' the unit was to cut down on noise. Basically, they put a racing tranny in a street car and people were complaining about excessive noise. The 'upgrade' cut down on noise, but also cut down on reliability. The funniest (if you can call it funny) is the tranny in my old '93 not only shifted better, but made less noise too.

There aren't that many ZR1 owners that have problems with the ZF6, but LT4 owners seem to have problems all the time. This should prove the point that the old ZF's were practically bullet proof... and the new ones just aren't.

By the way, have you contacted the ZF doc? check him out at www.zfdoc.com he could be cheaper

Some time ago I was going to order a certain part from this Company, but when I asked a certain question I received No Reply. I just recently was on the Corvette Forum and an individual had a problem with a part he had ordered from there. Also this company has had compaints sent to Better Business Bureau. Sometimes cheaper is not always the way to go. Good Luck
