I'm looking for the definitive shop manual for an 88 C-4. I'd like one that covers the mechaincal as well as the electrical ( codes for one thing).

So, who sells the best?

I have the GM shop manual for my 81. It has all the mechanical stuff plus electrical diagrams and diagnosis info. I believe it was mid america that i saw selling them, but i bought mine on ebay for 25.

I gotta ask, Jeffvette, what is "368 in 14 days"? :confused

_ken :w

Helm !
They are the same manuals the dealers use

Helm's the one.:upthumbs

If you can be patient, keep checking eBay, got mine for 20 with shipping last year, can always get a chiltons for the short term (much bettery than Haynes in my opinion).

I have seen manuals on a CD on eBay, and have (twice) contacted the various sellers to get a sample page to look at, but never heard back (seemed a little suspicious). I like the idea of the PDF-format to do a "find" to get to a certain area, then print just what I need. I can get the printed pages dirty then just throw them away when I am done. These CD manuals are less expensive (generally) than the Helm printed manuals. Anyone have experience with these CD manuals? Tim

HallenTi...be careful what you buy...usually the CD is just a scan of the pages from the manual...and you won't have the abilty to use the search (find) feature. In other words, they don't scan the page using OCR text (Optical Character Recognition)

Yes, just got mine a couple of days ago. I think it's great...easy look ups and of course, printable. Has everything the Service Manual has and more. Its got tutorials on it that I don't beleive the Manual has. I could be wrong on that tho. Very indepth electronic troubleshooting, cluster, injecters etc: $31 w/shipping for my '89. :Steer

JonM - thanks for the warning...I expected that it was just a scan of a manual, but I assumed that it was true PDF format. Good point. Magmotor, sounds like you're happy with the CD manual. Is the overall quality pretty good? As I said in the original post, I haven't heard back from anyone as far as a sample page goes. May I ask where you got yours (auto parts store, eBay, etc), and whom you dealt with is on eBay? Tim

I bought one of the CD manuals for my '88 on ebay awhile back. For the price, it's probably worth having as a reference, but the one I have won't take the place of the service manuals. Each section of the manual is a separate pdf file, but it is a scan. The CD I have doesn't have any of the body sections, but it has a section on carburetors?:confused and the antenna section was for a front fender mount antenna.

On the plus side, it is nice to be able to print just the pages you need to work with. There may be some that are better than others, but this is definately a case of buyer beware.

Do NOT buy the cd version--Worthless

I can tell you what not to buy---I got the cds and ---they had popular mechanic level idiot articles. if they won't give you samples --they are most likely fake. They depend on people being ashamed to challenge them--not me--did lose the excess shipping though

Lucky to get my money back
