Was at the Idaho Vette site (www.idavette.com) and saw the production figures for the 2000 C5's(just picked a 2000 C5 a couple weeks ago and have been searching the net for info.) and i noticed that only 1 (one) C5 was built in 2000 in Platinum Power Purple.....(probably some GM exec.)............

Last summer while in the Museum at BG, I remember seeing a purple C5 with 2 racing stripes going down it. I'll have to look through my pictures to see if I got one of it.

Speaking of colors Greg, where are the pics of your new acquisition. You've kept us in the dark too long.:nono

That car was part of an incentive promotion at the Corvette Plant in 2000, Platinum Power referred to the JD Power Platinum Award for Quality. The winner of the one-of-a-kind 2000 Platinum Purple Coupe Corvette, was Corvette Plant employee Billy Phelps. It's a 6 speed and the seats are also one of a kind stitching at the headrest. Silver stripes? Yes.

Hope that helps.

From an old NCM news announcement:

"The winner of the one-of-a-kind 2000 Platinum Purple coupe Corvette, was Corvette Plant employee Billy Phelps. Billy has been a 2nd shift employee at the Corvette Plant since 1984, and works as an electrician. The drawing held at the GM Corvette Assembly Plant at 1:30 pm yesterday..."

Nice to see that a "regular" guy was able to become the owner of a one of a kind vehicle.........not some "suit" on the "inside".......Good going Billy.........

We saw it at the Museum befor he won it . It was absolutely beautiful ! Cliff

unique 'vette

I saw an article in a Corvette magazine about that car and the winner. I believe that he said that he was going to sell it. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

Yes, I think I read that in an old issue of Corvette Fever..

I found it!!!!

I know this is an old thread, but I thought it was interesting. Today at Bob McDorman Chevrolet's Corvette Show in Columbus OH, I came across this bad boy!!!!!!

Greg C,

As reubenmc has shown, the Platinum Purple Corvette is now part of Bob McDormans personal collection. Bob McDorman is the owner of Bob McDorman Chevrolet in Canal Winchester, Ohio.

Here is a link to his site.
http://www.bobmcdormanchevrolet.com/

Select the hotlink for “Classic Chevy Show”.

Not sure when he acquired it, but I’ll tell you what, McDorman is the Corvette collector to watch. He is buying up EVERYTHING! His list of cars and their previous owners is stellar. Harley earls styling car, Zora’s last personal Corvette, Bunkie Knudson’s car etc., the list goes on and on.

The best part is that every year, McDorman holds a 3-day Corvette show where he pulls unrestored Corvettes from ‘53 to 03 out of his personal collection and displays them for the 3-day event. You can go right up to them, they are not roped off -- great for people who are restoring a vintage Corvette.

It is truly amazing, he’s has one Corvette from every year of Corvette production. In many cases, he has multiples of a particular year -- if there was a different engine/special package option. ie, ‘96 Grand Sport, ‘96 Collectors Edition, etc., he’s got em! Many with miles in the double digits.

If your trying to find a rare Corvette and are wondering where it has found a home... look at McDormans first, he is fast becoming THE Collector.
