why the need for an adapter plate for Cragar SS wheels to adapt to C1 and C2 cars? I thought I read somewhere that the drums crack or I heard from a supplier that the wheels interferes....I want to get some nice wheels for the C1 and C2, but don't understand the need of adapter plate and why I wouldn't need it for other types of wheels I might want to adapt to.

I got a reply from one supplier that told me if I had a 4" backspacing that I would have no problem mounting 17X7 wheels......so...what are the thoughts of the troops?

A C2 will need spacers with the Cragars becuase of the disc brakes. They are a flat spoke wheel, not a curved spoke like a Torque-Thrust 2, which clears the caliper. I am running spacers on my '66 now with some E.T. wheels.
I don't think you will need spacers on a C1 with the original drum brakes on it. What you will have to check for, though, is whether any of the spokes contact any welded on weights on your drums (if there are any). I put Cragars on my '64 GTO and had to grind down a couple of the weights where the wheel would not sit perfectly flat against the drum.

I should have been more explicit....I have a 1964 C2, so it has drum brakes all around....so the flat spoke hits the drums and that causes problems?

There is clearance between the spokes and the drum. My only problem came where there was a balance weight welded to the drum. The 3/16" or so thickness of the weight interfered with the clearance on one of the spokes, so I took a grinder and ground away the corner of the weight- problem solved. This was on a GTO. I don't recall having that problem on my '60 Corvette - I don't know how similar the drums are. I did have the E.T. wheels that are currently on my '66 (with spacers) on my '60 with no spacers.

no problem with 60 drums and no spacers
