Why wont my PKE LocK my car?

I cant seem to get my doors to lock when I walk away from the car. The horn beeps but it wont lock the car-it will unlock the car, though, when I get near it . I have to lock the car with the power door lock switch when I leave my car-if not it will beep the horn & set the alarm, but it wont lock the doors. I dont have an owners manual so setting up the PKE system has been a pain in the but for me-I do have an owners manual on order. -I also cant lock the doors with the fob-only unlock

PS that should say "Lock" my car, but I cant seem to change it via the edit function

Unless I missed something, what year Vette are we talking here?
PKE was introduced in 1993, from your description it sounds like the key fob and the car are talking to one another, but the door locks are not responding as you expect.
Here's where I would begin... have somebody or yourself sit in the vehicle, while you or a helper walks away from the car. See if the door lock solonoids are operating, you should be able to either hear them, or watch the manual slider inside the vehicle move.
If it is moving but the door isn't locking, then you could have weak lock solonoids, or the door locks/linkage may need some cleaning/lubrication to get them working easier for the solonoids to operate and make the full stroke travel to get the job done.

I sold my 93 so I don't have the owner's manual, BUT I do have the 1993 video. I'll watch that video and see if I can sum up the PKE programming procedure. Meanwhile, somebody with an owner's manual may jump in and give you that info before I can.
I'll check back in about an hour or so.

I have a 1994-if the solonoids were bad wouldnt I have trouble locking the doors with the power lock switch as well?

They may require less force to UNLOCK vs what is required to move them to the LOCK position.
I didn't have time to review the video yet, will try tommorow morning or afternoon in between relatives that are visiting tommorrow.

If you hold the door button down on the key fob it should cycle the locks.(lock and unlock) I cycle mine twice and it disables the passive part of the system. Cycle it again and it will become passive when you walk away, at least 7ft. So if you hold the button down you should hear it lock and unlock and if it works by the switch then the soleloids should be ok. If it won't cycle then it could be the module.

I can hold down the lock button on the fob & turn the pke on & off-when I cycle the locks the 1st time it unlocks( it jerks in the unlock direction & makes a weird rattling noise in the drivers door) & the second time it unlocks as well(no noise in door, though). Could it be the new key fob I just got? Perhaps I programmed it wrong? Maybe Im going to have to get a service manual

PKE

When active, the PKE will lock the car when its signal is absent for >5 seconds or so - no buttons pushed just walk away.
When in range (close to the driver's door is good) HOLDING the door button down about 5 seconds causes the PKE to become inactive (signalled by a cycling of the lock). Doing it again (in range and holding the door button down) ACTIVATES the PKE (again signalled by a cycling of the lock.
When active and the key in the ignition but OFF, holding the door button down causes the PKE to switch from driver's door only mode to both doors mode. Doing it again -key in, ignition OFF- reverses back to driver's door only.
When active and after approaching the car to open only the driver's door (when in that mode) the door button (pushed only momentarily) will unlock the passenger door. My '95 doesn't open the car reliably from the passenger side so I open the car and do this mode switching from the drivers side.
If escorting someone to the passenger seat, I usually have to use the key unless we've walked passed the driver's door and close to the rear of the car.
Hope this helps.

My problem is that it wont lock the car-unlock works fine. If i walk away with PKE active the horn will beep but it wont lock the car-I have to lock it using the door swich the walk away. When I approach it will unlock the car, though.

I did notice something today that might help me solve this-When I close the doors(either one), when Im getting in the car, as soon as whatever door shuts the locks cycle. Dont know if this means anything
