While checking my spare during a gas tank change I noticed my spare tire was toast. The 225 70s are about an inch taller than my 245s but im not sure if they are too wide for the carrier.thanks in advance.

I don't think so, It's too wide and too fat. At least I would be surprised if it did.

It wouldn't fit in mine. but 235-60R does.

I have the same issue with the spare tire, cause I put 255/60's on my 77. This tire size is an option on 78-82 models, so it stands to reason they would offer a compatible spare, or a larger pan, but I don't see either for sale. I don't want to tear up my differential either, but I can't find any info on this. Is it possible they offered a spare to go with the option, or a larger pan? If GM offered a larger pan, then It a 245 should easily fit.
