Help! Will tire pressure affect an alignment???

I just got new tires put on and the stipid kid filled 3 tires at 42psi and the 4th tire (front drivers side) at 32psi... I didnt think to check the pressure until after I got a lazer alignment... I filled the low tire up to 42psi but will it throw off the alignmet?

I would hate to destroy my new tiresad!

PS: the tires are rated to max at 51psi...

Tire pressure can affect the outcome of an alignment, however, the affect of one tore at 32 psi and the rest at 42 will be minimal.

Now, if one was at 22 and the rest at 32, the affect of the difference would be greater.

Lastly, do not run your tires at 42 psi all the time. The maximum rated pressure listed on the tire sidewall is tire maker's maximum safe pressure and not GM's recomendation for max. pressure at GVW. That recomendation is printed on a sticker on the left door or door post.

For normal driving at less than GVW, I'd run the tires on your C4 at 26-28 psi. At that pressure, tread life will be optimal and the ride will be much nicer than if you run them at 42 psi.

To add little to Hibs excellent response, where did you have this done, some TIRE SHOP, I hate tire shops. I work as a tech at a Ford Dealer, (yeah, shut up, and WE ARN'T owned by the government, so there) and I personally when mounting tires dont just seat the beads and call it a day. I seat the beads inflate to around 30 to 35 pounds on all tires and then balance them. Once mounted on car I set to door placard specs. Unless the tire reqiures more to seat then I deflate to that amount.

Tire shops rarely do this and I have NEVER SEEN ONE EVER even use a TORQUE stick for CRYING OUT LOUD!!! I dont like warped brake rotors, do you?
I at least use a torque stick, which WILL keep one from OVER Torquing lug nuts!!! It doesnt take much longer to do it the right way versus the half ***ed way. :soapbox

I got it done at walmart... To add to the poision... they scratched my rims... I watched every step they made, and they seemed careful, but it must have been a mistake somewhere...ad He used the torque wrench at 100ft lbs...

Now I am working with Walmarts insurance and will see how well they treat their customers...

I cannot get anyone in NJ who knows what they are doing for a decent price, and who are not snakes, and who can service a Vette...

Most places told me they wont take the risk...

I took it to STS to get it aligned and the told me over the phone that it was $90, when I got their they told me $120???:bash I told him no way now you are giving it to me for $80 or I leave, and he gave it to me for $80...

Dang $80 a pop for alignment I am not tooting my horn but I paid 75 Texas dollars at National Tire and Battery for a 3 year alignment, and they check the tire pressure first.

If you go in for a tire change, have them recommend items that you need done. Go home and wait and you will mostly get a coupon in the mail for the services.

EWWW, Wal-mart, shudder....

I have but a simple question...ever wonder why guy or gals work at say the local Pep Boys, NTB, Wal-mart, Jiffy Lube, etc...places...Hmmm...cause they dont got the skills or knowledge to work anyplace better.

The horror stories I could tell about some of those places. NEVER worked in one for the record.

NOT that I am flaming all of them, I am sure their are many knowledgeable folks in those places but from what I HAVE SEEN and HEARD about, generally that is not the case.

To be fair I have seen some reputable repair shops and dealers with techs that I wouldn't let them work on my lawn mower.
Best BET is to find some place you trust and find the folks there knowledgeable, honest, and that do good work. Then stick with that place.



That is just me though.

Thats the thing... Over here in NJ everyone is a snake... My dad has tried many a mechanic and all of them are BAD!!! I would have taken it to Corvette Paramedics but its an hour and a half ride each way, so it is not very convienent...

Anyone know a good mechanic/shop in monmouth county? Someone who doenst damage your Vette, knows what he is doing, and is affordable?

NOBODY uses a torque stick on my cars. I have had warped rotors twice when they used a torque stick.
The only right way is to use a torque wrench.It is to the point where I don't let anyone put the wheels on my cars but me unless I stand and watch them do it. No air wrench to put the nuts on.A spinner wrench isn't that much slower. Also they need to be tightened in stages. Would you use a torque stick to tighten your head bolts ?

a good way to find a mechanic or shop would be to go to your local car shows and ask other corvette owners who they use. good luck.
