The drivers side window on my coupe is tilting back so that the top rear corner is hitting the roof pillar. If I run the window up with the door open the front edge comes up about 3 or 4 inches more than it should, and the back top point overlaps the roof pillar by about the same amount. I am capable of removing the door panel but am not familiar with what to do to after that. Has anyone had this experience and if so what did it take to fix the problem.;help

I just looked at my FSM and discovered that I might have caused my own problem with the window. My PKE Fob is not working so I have gone to using the key to open and lock the door. The lock and lock mechanism is very stiff. I surmised that time had caused the moving parts to get corroded so I sprayed WD40 Liberally all along the outer window seal. In reading the manual it says not to lubricate the stop blocks or guide channel. I am going to get some break cleaner and try to spray the same way I did with the WD40 in hopes that it will remove the lubricant and return the stop blocks to a dry condition that will stop the window from going past them. If it could be something else please chime in with your thoughts.

just a thought but you might ck to seeif the door hinge is worn. open the door and seeif you can move it up and down if you can then that might be part of the problem.

No movement in hinge. Definitely in the window

Suggest you pull the door panel & see what's going on?

Your FSM shud tell you what you need to know.

John,
The window running passed the stop on a C4 at the front is a common problem. Your front stop is probably broken. You can get another at the dealer for a few bucks. I have already replaced it twice on my '96. I am not sure why it would overlap the rear pillar but it could be related. I'd start by replacing the front stop and see if that fixes the other issue as well.

A few tips for you...
When you get the door panel off you'll see a thin aluminum panel that has some "stuff" connected to it. You are WAY better off removing that piece than trying to replace the stop with it on the door. There are a couple of push rods with clips that are little bit of a bugger to deal with as I recall but believe me, getting that off first makes the job much easier.

Before you replace it with the new one mix up some epoxy and reinforce the inside pocket of the new stop with a thick blob of glue. Be careful applying it as there is a bolt that has to fit in there that you don't want to interfere with. Use some common sense here and apply the glue where the break was on the old one to reinforce that area. I got this tip from someone else here and tried it on my car. My current drivers front window stop has already outlasted the other two and showing no signs of going bad.

It was the Guide Stop. As you suggested I removed the Accessory Panel. Here is a little tip you do not have to remove the door lock rod just the door handle rod. With a little careyou can remove the panel and it will hang on the door lock rod out of the way. You also have to remove the actuator rod but that is right in front of you and no problem. The part from my GM dealer was $17.00 Cheaper than Ecklers.:boogie:chuckle

I'm in the process of changing both Guide/Stops on my 95'

Also,Both windows have to be moved forward about an 1/8" or so (Just replaced my "A" pillar W.S.). To do this do I loosen the 3 Guide to Glass Nuts and move the window forward???

Thanx

Been awhile

I did not have to make any adjustments when I put mine back together and I am guessing that was because the blocks were new and were not worn down by time and use. This then reset the window to the adjustments made at the factory when it was new. I will try to send you the pages from the fsm later tonight when I get back home

Go to this Website. The third one down gives a good primer on practical side window adjustment tricks for a C4. There are also a number of other things at this website that are useful. :beer

Hey Guys . What file are you using to open those links in the Australian site . I cannot open them or I should say Word cannot read them and Adobe will not open them either .

My passenger side window has done a nice scrape on the B pillar and I need to replace those plastic parts you speak of before the darn window breaks ...

Thanks

Tripler
