Window Alignment on a 84

I recently replaced the window ribbons (drivers side and passenger side) and I am still having problems gertting the windows to seal. I marked them inside the door before I removed the window regulators but I can't get them to seal properly. The weather stripping looks good, not dry and still pliable.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Their are numerous adjustments you can make to the windows. You need to remove the door panel. One adjustment is the bolts that hold the window to the apparatus that makes the windows rise and lower. You may remember these bolts as having serrated edges (edges dig into the metal) on them when you changed the ribbon. Another adjustment is a hook (looks like an upside down J) that catches on the way up and stops the window. This can be adjusted up or down. It takes patience.

I am struggling with the alignment to get it to seal. There seems to be a pivot point - when I adjust the front to make contact with the seal the rear drops and vice a versa.

I haven't put the wrench through it in frustration yet. :)

Thanks

The more I dink with it I become conviced the rubber has shrank. The car has been in AZ for about 8 years now and this part of the world has a tendency to shrink rubber.

The hook adjustment seems to have no affect on how high the windows goes. It just stops. When I replaced the ribbon I do not remember anything that would indicate how high the window goes. Is it possible I did not install the ribbon correctly. I just took off the broken ribbon and replaced it with the new one after I cut the length. Meaning, is there a something which specifies either the full up or full down position? I only need it to go about 1/8 inch higher.

Thanks

I've already tried that. It is as far as it will go up. I think I may be missing something with regards to window alignment. I have a Hayens repair manual (if you want to call it that) that has limited information. Is there anything on-line that I could look at. I think I am missing something.

Do the red arrows point to the holes for the window bolts or some other adjustment possibility that I may have missed? I understand about the patience.

thanks

Yes...the red arrows are connecting the glass to the regulator. I don't understand why you seem to have a pivot point, because if you remove those bolts, you can remove the glass from the car. You do know that you have to lower the window to get to one of those bolts correct? The hole is located in the picture below just to the right of the S in the word adjustments.

Wonderful. My ribbon just snapped and I am going to replace darn near everything in the whole process. This looks like it will be a fun weekend. >:(

I am not sure why the pivot point is there either. It is strange to say the least. I have the windows all the way up in the square cut-outs but I am still a little short. I also marked the windows before I took them out. I used a indelible marker and marked the glass using the white nylon plate as a guide before I removed the ribbon. For all I know this was a problem before I got the car (they were broke when I bought it) my other thought is bad aftermarket rubber.

...well, not everything everything. Just ribbons, felt pads, door panel noise seals, outer weatherstrip and windlace weatherstrip. Still pricey though.
