window regulator upgrade

So I decided to bite the bullet and upgrade the passenger window on my '85.
I picked up a used scissor style regulator off ebay for $120 and put it in last weekend.
Problem is, the glass seems to be leaning too far in and none of the adjustments seems to help.
I'm thinking the regulator is bent or otherwise defective, but going from a ribbon style I don't have any frame of reference.
So I have a couple of questions for those who have done this conversion before:

1) once installed, was your motor right against the inside wall of the door. I mean in close contact, up tight, can't be moved any further inward.

2) Did your scissor regulator fit snug vertically?
When I installed mine, I put in the upper bolts first and it kind of hung from those and I was able to swing it back and forth easily to start the lower bolts.

I replaced both window mechanisms in my '84, and don't remember having this problem. If you loosen the mounting bolts for the glass, then push the glass in the direction it needs to move, you should be able to see what adjustments you need to make. Do you need some shims under some of the mounting bolts? Are you sure all of the bolts were installed correctly? You did cut the one bolt shorter to keep it from hanging up on the scissor arm, right?

The glass mounting bolts only adjust for forward/back, or up/down. In my case the top of the glass needs to move outward, away from the car. The front top edge brushes against the A-pillar trim when you close it and is completely underneath the weatherstripping. Any kind of shimming of those bolts would only tilt the top of the glass further in.
Both "fuzzies" are adjusted fully outward.
I didn't trim the forward bolt because it doesn't come anywhere near the scissor mechanism. It's an easy 1/4" outboard of the scissor throughout the movement. I think that's a clue.
Last night I pulled inward on the vertical part of the mechanism, halfway between where it mounts to the door top and bottom. I couldn't test the door closure like that, but it did appear to tilt the window in the right direction.
This is a used part, so I imagine it's entirely possible it's bent a little.

Got it done.
I didn't realize there was a hidden bolt on the rear "claw" stop that adjusts it in/out.
Once I tweaked that a little, everything lined up perfect.
On to the next project!
