I had window tint film applies to all the glass on my '13 C6 by a company that has tinted for me before (they had always done a good job in the past). When I got the car back, all was OK except the upper part of the back glass, where there is a dot matrix that seems to have prevented the film from firmly adhering, thus making the area look a bit lighter than the lower part. The matrix starts off with smaller dots and they get larger as they go upward. Tinter says this is a common issue with no clear answer. I'm upset because I think it looks bad, as the "line" between the properly glued film and the part-glued is not a straight line, and that makes it look sloppy. I'm also upset because I specifically asked before job was done if the tinter had done C6's and was told he has done quite a few, but nothing was said to me about this problem with the rear matrix. Anyone out there experience same thing? Anyone had tinting and did NOT have this problem?

I have the same problem on my ZR1. Because the dots on the rear window are raised, the film cannot adhere to the glass and leaves air gaps. I was told and shown what would happen by my tint guy. He said nothing could be done... :w

I wonder if the dots could be scraped before tint is installed?

I haven't noticed, but do C5's have this as well? I'm having my windows done in a week or so and I supposed I should be aware of this too.

I don't think so Tom, the windows on my 02 were tinted and it was the same on the back window as on the side glass.....

matrix

I believe the dots are used to suppress some type of glare or direct sunlight, somehow. I have a feeling that they would not scrape off too easily. Really looks kinda lousy back there. If the "demarcation line" was straighter, it might not be so bad, but as it's uneven, it makes the tint job look bad. I took it back to the tinter and he scraped away at it with his plastic squeegee thing, and I saw some improvement where he did it, but it was very slow-going. He did a small area but then suggested I let it bake a bit more under the sun. This won't be easy as I don't (and won't) leave the car out of the garage for long periods of time. Since I don't drive it every day, I just dunno about this. I suggested that he use his heat gun judiciously to simulate the heat from the sun, but he was not keen on that. Was he perhaps just putting me off??

My ZR1 rear window tint has never gotten any better. :w

Same thing happened to me. My installer put a solid black film over the upper part of the back glass were the dots are, which helped but it still looked horrible. I was told that you can't take the dots off. I have never seen one that looked good. I traded the car for another new one and I will not have it done again. Just saying!
