Windsheild wipers blades

I recently replaced the wiper blades on my 1996. The guide book said they were exact replacements. Now they won't fit back under the hood. Has anyone else seen this problem? I am thinking of trying to reshape the carrier before I invest the $55.00 dollars for factory replacements. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've never found any aftermarket blades that fit under the hood like the factory blades.

I've been buying the blade refills from Pylon and such and installing them in the factory blade.

You didn't replace the blades then, you replaced the wiper arm unit(s)?!
I bought a set of blade inserts from Corvette America, Zip Corvette, Eckler's or Mid-America (I've forgotten which), but they work almost too well.
They're those 3-4 edge blades. Check 'em out.

I actually had a clerk at AutoZone try and sell me a pair of wiper arm replacements for my '99 Z24 Cavalier. "Keep your receipt," he said after I told him I didn't want wiper arms, just the inserts. When I asked, "Why?" He said, "you'll be back. No one ever gets them to work." Same with the Vette blade replacements. Well, I did get them to work and went back to AutoZone to show him so. He asked ME to show him so he could tell dissatisfied customers how to install them. A set of pliers and a bit of pinching and Ouila!
