I am trying to figure out how to modify my interior windshield header center trim panel. The problem is this 68-75 convertible trim was totally different then a 1982's I found that the center section fits nicely but unless the dashpad is notched on the 1982 dash they will not fit. So my dilema is this! How to modify a 78-82 center section so the large notch in it is much smaller yet maintain a nice look without wrapping it in vinyl or something else. I also will be buying a new dash which is why a 78-82 piece needs to be made to work since I don't want to notch a new dashboard.
I had thought about buying a few of these center sections and fiberglassing them in that notch area but then there would be hairline gaps so what kind of filler would work well.
My other option is to cut it in the middle and glass it back together and add sections to the ends to re-lengthen it and relocate any bolt holes to secure it.
But I do have a idea no matter what to make it look nice it will need vinyl covering. Are there any vinyl's that have the same texture appearance as the original plastic?
I know this will be a very tough topic to to remedy just looking for good ideas to help out is all.
