I just recieved my dated windshield for my 64 convertable.
I plan on installing it this weekend. Is there anything I should know, are there any tricks, is there any special sealer or lubricant I should have on hand?
I have the new seal and a fine rope to put in the bead to pull out as I'm putting the glass in. I'm woundering what, if any, sealants are people using?
Is the big rubber seal sufficient?

The modern-day equivalent of the sealer the plant used in the glass-to-rubber channel slot and rubber channel slot-to-body is 3M Bedding & Glazing Compound #08509; comes in 10-oz. tubes you use in a caulking dispenser. You'll need a helper to press on the glass from the outside as you're pulling the cord from the inside, and you should replace all of the molding clips before you start the installation (only Paragon and LICS have the good ones).

Windshield Install

John, thanks a million. I'll locate it at one of the local jobbers in town. I have replaced all the clips and screws for the moldings already. :w

Here's what it looks like, Clint.

I got the sealer online since I could not find it locally. Through Sherwin-Williams - 24.00 or so with shipping for 2 tubes.

Windshield Goo

Well, I had to order it.
All the local jobbers had the hard set material, but not the 8509.
It seams there is not that much call for the sealant that is used for rubber gasket set windows, like the older Corvette. I get my Goo Monday.
It's not like I don't have other items to install. Thanks for the info !
Looking like a Beautiful weather weekend in Eastern North Carolina !
