So I decide to take a nice ride on a beautiful fall day. As I am cruising along, minding my own business, WHAM.....a rock hits my windshield. Now, it did not crack, but it certainly left a mark. I took it to my local glass guy and he told me there is nothing he can do. I took it to another guy and he basically said "Live with it". While they both agreed there is no risk of it becoming worse, they could not offer sufggestions on what I can do to hide the mark so it does not stand out so much. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or if the mark bothers me that much, should I just have the windshield repalced (which I would hate to do for many reasons)

Thanks.

- Not sure if this picture will show anything, but I figured I would try to attach it anyway! The white mark in the middle of the picture is the damage. It is smooth if you run your finger across it.

Considering that replacing the windshield on a C4 usually results in replacing all the weather stripping also, I would try to live with it.

This happened to me recently and it was a royal pain. I decided to replace the windshield only to find out that the weather stripping around the A-pillar has to be replaced also. The glass guy my insurance company sent out tried installing a non-GM piece and it just didn't work. I ended up calling him off and taking the car to my favorite dealer. They installed the correct windshield and weather stripping around the windshield only to create problems with the weather stripping on the roof. Then the halo bar. It was a bit of a nightmare and I had to cover the cost of the 'additional' weather stripping work.

I have the exact windshield "kiss" only at the bottom of the windshield. Why? Friggin' neighborhood kids having a BB-gun fight. Why? Because they're stupid. Oh, if only they'd've just put one of their own eyes out! Ok, y'all know I kinda, sorta, maybe don't really mean that. Told the cops (let's not even rehash that farce) and the kids' parents. Everybody is pointing fingers at everybody else.
So I'm stuck paying the cost of at least having the chip filled so it won't spread.
You can get your windshield replaced at an enormous cost. Is there an interior decal you might wanna stick up there if it doesn't block your vision. Say, a tasteful American flag or something? After a roadside fistfight with the guilty party and nothing to show for it other than a "talkin" to by a trooper, my bestest Vette bud begrudgingly ended up filling the chip in with a dark colored sealant, then applying a Vette emblem decal over it. Just a thought.

CJS -
J C Whitney has a windshield repair kit #SD15740DP for $9.99. Its a one time use.
Also a kit for numerous uses #SD135420DP for $17.99.
I have used a similar kit on a Nova windshield with a "bullseye" type rock chip and was very satisfied with the repair. The chip became almost invisible and was so to anyone who did not know that it was there. I have seen these kits in a few auto parts stores also. Might even try the auto section of a Walmart or other chain store. The kits include a resin that fills the crack and becomes nearly invisible.
JCW also has a glass polishing kit SD132455R for $29.99 which may be more for scratches than a chip.

Any chip on a windshield can be filled, which is what those guys should have told you. You should do it because the next time you use your wippers, if it happens to cross that chip, it will leave the ye ol' streak mark across its entire path, having cut the rubber while going across it.....

If I am understandng you right I have the same kind of damage to my windshield. Mine is not like the typical rock ping that leaves a cirlce that you normally can get filled but it is more like a deep scratch. It was there when I bought it about a year ago. It has not spread or gotten any worse. It is just annoying. I was thinking about getting the windshield replaced but from what I have read here I think I will wait until I have something worse.

my advise-live with it.the weather stripping alone costs over $200.
