I am restoring an '85 and would like to replace the windshield reveal trim and the weatherstrip retainer pieces. The old pieces were bent in removal and the metal is stretched. Also, there is a lot of silicone that would take quite a while to remove. Lastly, the reveal trim paint is peeling. Since I have gone to the trouble to remove everything to do a quality paint job, I hate to put these old pieces back on the car. Therefore, I would prefer to buy new pieces.

The problem is that the dealer can't find a part number for the reveal trim. They have called a GM parts help line, which so far is a dead end. One of the dealer mechanics claims that the weatherstrip retainer is the only part around the windshield, but I know he is wrong. I suppose the reveal trim could come with the retainer as one part number, but that seems unlikely.

I heard somewhere these parts cost about $500, which if true will change my mind on restoring the old parts. I would at this point like to find out if they are still available and the cost. Any help is appreciated.

The total cost for everything you will need including the center, left, and right outer molding plus the weatherstrip retainers for left and right A pillars will set you back about $525. The new parts come with sticky foam rubber-like sealing material attached to them which is probably missing or destroyed on your old parts. If you don't want water leaks around the A pillars you should really consider replacing these parts. Once they are bent up your chances of getting them to seal properly are slim.

The dealers can get them but the parts department people that I have dealt with were pretty clueless about how the windshield trim is constructed. You can also try TLD, I have bought several pieces from them and they are no more expensive than the dealer.
