Windshield Trim

There's a special tool made with a hook on the end which will "reach under" the molding to release the molding clips which hold the molding on. Should be available at most auto parts places, I wouldn't try to get by without it. Nothing like the proper tool for a job.

Start at one end of the molding, raising it only a little once the clip is released, and work down the length of the molding until it's all the way off. The clip should be accessable from the windshield side rather than from the body side of the molding (if that's clear).

Yes, they can be difficult to remove. The most important tool is patience as replacements are "very" expensive.

I had mine media-blasted while off and am about to buff them up.

I would recommend replacing all the mounting clips while the trim is off.

Thank you both. So I need a trim removal tool. I hope the local good ole boys know what I'm looking for. Heaven, you really think I need new clips. Also do you have any left over or used restoration tools/reference materials that you'd like to sell. I'll be in the Buffalo area for about 2 weeks and would love to cross the border and see your car.
Thanks again

If you get an old enough "good ole boy" he'll know what your're looking for. Not too many vehicles today have the garnish molding and reveal molding like these earlier cars did!

Might also be helpful to you to get someone who has removed the molding before to get you started in the right direction. You have to slip the tool under the molding, run it along the windshield until you find the clip, then catch the clip to pull slightly and release. Sounds more difficult than it is, but a little help is always reassuring when tackling a new task. I'm sure it'll go OK.
