Winter Storage

Back in the 70's, I didn't seem to care how I stored my '69 during the winter months. Now, being a little older, LOL and wiser, what and how is the best way to store a '74 for possibly 5 long winter months? I will have it garaged but is that enough? :confused

Excellent question I often hear conflicting information.

Ill tell you what I do.I have a 67 caddy deville with vouge tires on it.This car is left in a garage that gets snowed in so its impossible to take out for a ride.
I put it away SPOTLESS! I raise the car up off its suspention so the tires do not flat spot.I leave the oil and filter as it is and change the oil in the car when it comes out of hibernation.I remove the battery.(I used to leave the battery in because it has an exspencive alarm in the car But I now remove the battery and leave it in my heated basement on a wooden shelf)I also no longer cover this car because it seems if I cover the car I get mice under the hood.I leave the cover off and understand it will have to be dusted off in the spring.

As for my 66 vette I leave that one on its tires (i was told not to let the suspention hang on these cars) I leavee the battery in this one and start it every month (I was also advised not to start it because what ever settles in the motor oil MOISTURE once you start it it circulate it again and it would be better to just let it sit and then change the oil in the spring) I start this one in the winter monthly only because some times I just need a big block's roar sound to remind me of why I have the car.This one I do cover only because its in an active garage with my children in and out and I have no fear of mice.

Move to Calif. There is no such thing as "winter storage", you just need to be carefull not to live on a fault that is tooooo active.
When we do have a shaker (every 10-15 years), it's like a free ride at Disneyland.
It's all worth it to be able to drive year round..

The tech article is very informative. It is obvious, every situation is different and I have my work cut out for me in the next few weeks. :crazy
