Wiper Door Won't Open

Hi guys. I have a wiper door that used to open halfway then stop. However, now it won't open at all. No movement when i turn on wipers at switch AND wont move any with the wiper door vacuum override knob pulled under the column.

I have to manually pull the door up by hand or with screwdriver on end of actuator underhood.

What does that tell you when NEITHER the switch OR the override won't operate the door?

...just had same problem and my actuator can was bad. If lights are a little sluggish at the same time then it is can for sure.

Heads up, the wiper door leaking can cause problems with the headlights and vise-versa.

Sometimes causese backfires too. :-(

Most likely it's the actuator.

I'm re-resurrecting my '72 into the world of "High-Tech" & I'm never gonna worry 'bout that vacuum stuff nomore, 'cause I'm goin' electric, both the headlights & wiper door.

If you have a mighty vac or something similiar, use it to put a vaccum signal on either of the ports on the canister. See if this raises the wiper door. If it doesn't raise the door then you can most likely just replace the witches hat and the door will work again.

Mine had two problems

1) the rubber plug at the back was loose.

2) There is a gasket on the other side of the actuator. If you pull back the boot you'll see it. Mine was hanging out!

I don't know if you can replace that gasket, without rebuilding or replacing the whole unit. I would think the gaskets would be the most likely problem.
