Help! Wiper/Turnsignal lever removal.

Paul,
yes, I have one. But could not find detailed instructions there.
Thanks for response - just emailed you,

Okay Khurshed, I have found the information you need, however you may not like it.

It is in Chapter 3F5B on page 5 of my manual. It is under the Tilt Steering Column Repair chapter. You will need to disable the airbag, and remove the steering wheel. Then see figure 6 on page 5 (3F5B-5). It is called, “Turn Signal Switch Removal Preparation.

This looks like a LOT of work to me. You may also need special tools to remove parts of the steering column. Once the steering wheel is removed you will then be able to unscrew the screws that hold the turn signal itself in place. Now, I do not know how much of it you already have removed so I am in the dark on this. If you have the steering wheel off you may be able to get access to it. There are two screws that hold hold a bracket which in turn holds the turn signal lever in place.

Good luck. Let me know if this helps.

Paul

Paul,
thanks a lot for your instructions - I'd follow them and let you know on results.

Are you replacing it? If you are you might want to snip the wire for the cruise on the old one before you remove it and use it to pull the wire from the new one through the steering column.

No need for that!! There is a small hole in the plug to tie a wire to!! I use a Guitar string, pull the old one out with the string hooked to it,tie the string to the new one and pull it back down through the column!!:upthumbs

Junk, you NEVER cease to amaze me! A guitar string!!!! I will remember that for future use, now THAT is resourceful.

I use guitar strings to cut windshields out with too!!:D:D:D

Ok, thanks Junk. I'd like to see that. Do you use it to like unstick the seal or something? Good idea though.

Thanks everybody who participated!
It was so simple!!! To remove lever without diassembling steering column - one has to just PULL IT OUT!!!! To attach - just PUSH IT BACK to it's place!!!! Now I know it after seven sweats are gone )))
Thanks again people!

i have a 91.......... I'm replacing my wiper switch... all goes well until its all back together... then the thin spring that apparently operates the steering wheel lock pin get in a bind or jams up or something... it prevents the key from turning... anybody have a column apart that can take a pic of how that little bugger is supossed to be? after my third attempt, its getting pretty frustrating...

the entire switch. i have the issue resolved. there is a weak spring that attaches to the rod that locks the steering wheel in place. that spring was hitting on the plastic cowling and not allowing the lock cylinder to operate. a bit of trimming with a utility knife and all is well. the part i replaced is shown in the provided link.
