I a'm aproaching my 5 year restoration anniversary on my 1966 roadster with 32k original miles. I was doing well until I got to installing a new wire loom on the header bar. The documentation I have does not show in detail how the wire loom is attached, routed, etc to the header bar. Does anyone have any pictures of this area. By the way the body just had its second birthday on the dolly. And ya, I am one of those guys that does everything, including mechanical, body and paint in his garage. Not an expert, just love the hobby!

Any input would be appreciated.

Look in Section 12, sheet A9 in your Assembly Manual (that's in the '67 manual, '66 should be similar); there are two plastic clips taped into the harness that snap into holes in the bottom of the header bar, and there are four green metal snap-in clips that snap into the bottom of the header bar that support the harness.

Thanks John for your quick response,

I have studied the section that you requested I look at prior to posting my question.
It is difficult, at least for me to decipher what the intent was by GM.
I did install a complete new press molded front end clip on the car and the "green metal snap in clips" are missing from the headed bar. I need to order some. I do need a little more info as far as the routing. Is the loom suppose to pass above or below the support brackets for the headlight motors? On the drivers side it appears that there is quite a bit of extra loom. Is that extra loom stufffed into the outside of the left outer headlight support bracket and into the front of the fender? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe

Here's a photo of the basic routing of the headlight harness - if you look closely on the left side, you can see the little white plastic clip taped into the harness on that side that snaps into a hole in the header bar. The green snap-in routing clips that support the harness haven't been installed yet in the photo. The excess harness on the left side gets looped around and is retained by a clip about 2" above and 1" outboard of the pass-through connector grommet in the inner fender for the parking lamp harness (shown in the A.I.M. on the second sheet showing the harness installation).

Thanks again for your quick response,
Thanks for including the photo, I believe I have a better understanding on what is needed to button this up. One last thing, do you know of a source where I can procure the J clips that mount on the inner fender as mention in your previious response?

Joe, that clip is a pretty generic item, same as most of the clips in the engine compartment for retaining harnesses; all the suppliers have them as "harness clips" or "wire clips".

John,

I wanted to take a second to thank you again for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate your quick response and attention to detail..
A seperate note:.
I spent a lot of time at the Warren wheel plant in the 60's and 70's also at the GM tech center, Chevy flint, three rivers transmission plant, etc.. Ever hear of Sciaky automation and welding systems?. Sorry for all you other folks, I know that this part of the text should not be here!

Joe

Yup, I'm familiar with Sciaky, although most of the major automation systems I've bought have been from Pico, Nachi, Fanuc, Schuler, etc. - I retired in 2001. :)

I started working for Sciaky as an Engineer in the mid 60's and left in 1992. I was curious if we have crossed paths in the automotive past.

Washington is about 25 miles due north of Detroit. The "Corvettes America" show (all Corvettes, usually draws 500-600 Vettes) is on August 13th at the GM Tech Center in Warren - info at www.corvettesamerica.org. The Woodward Cruise (biggest one-day automotive event in the world) is the following Saturday.

Hi Don,

Sorry for the slow response, but I have had some personal problems to deal with. Anyway, I met you last year at the car show in Bolingbrook. We met on the action center last yearas well. I am on the north side of town.

Joe
