HELLO ALL, today while tinkering in the engine compartment i found a stray wire. it's orange or light brown. not sure may have been heat damaged. anyway it looks about a #18ga. and with a white cloth cover over it. any ideas what the wire is for?

thanks

Robin

Where is it at? I thought I had a stray orange/brown wire in my car as well coming out behind the distributor and ran across the the firewall. Turned out to be the vacuum line for the heater control valve.

You coming up to Mark and Jen's for 4th of July? I'm about 45 minutes away but you would have a place to stay if needed.

Bob, thank you for the invite. trying to see if Sandie will have the time off. when you work in theme park(s) holidays can be tough for time off.luckily my shop closes completely most holidays
about the wire. it comes out of the harness just right of the distributor and heads towards the a/c and starter area. then it just stopped. no connector ,termination nada...

ahh to be in "hot 'lanta" again

Robin

Robin,

Is this the wire?

Bob. i don't think it's the same. my wire is covered in white braided cloth. i am wondering if it may be 73-74 specific.

thanks for looking for me

Robin

Robin on my 74 I have a wire in the loaction & color your describrd but it is attached to a switch the would detect the hood being open. If you would like I can photo & attach.

CW, no need for photo. i'll check and see if the switch wire is disconnected somewhere around that area.

The only (original) cloth-covered wire in the whole car is the resistance wire from the ignition switch that feeds power through the bulkhead connector to the coil (+) terminal; with the ignition "on", the coil only gets 7-8 volts. That special resistance wire serves the same purpose as the ceramic ballast resistor on the firewall on pre-'68 Corvettes.
