With 30 mpg in sight, 2015 Vette won't bow to pressure

It's rare that an automaker revises a fuel economy rating down, but that's what General Motors did with the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette.
A new eight-speed automatic transmission and 2.41 rear axle ratio give the new Stingray a nearly 4 percent bump in fuel economy over the 2014 car.
In GM's fuel economy testing, the car returned 29.42 mpg on the highway.
To reach a company goal of having the first sports car to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and get 30 mpg highway, all GM had to do was pump a few more pounds of air pressure into the tires.
But Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer, nixed that idea because it would have given the car a harsh ride.
