All the time I've been reading / contemplating the wonderbar upgrade I thought that removal would be a real pig as I thought you had to remove the factory crossmember. I was reading about you guys who have removed your original thinking "how the hell did they do that?"

Anyway with my car came a load of brochures & literature and in one of them was a "twin turbo upgrade" for early Callaway owners, which consisted of new turbos, downpipes, hoses, oil pan, and upgraded wonderbar and I just noticed the wonderbar in the photo I have shows bolt holes at each end.

That got me thinking - does the wonderbar just bolt in? Admittedly, it looks like a bit of a job to remove but previously I was thinking you had to cut the old one out and weld a new one in (stupid, eh?)

Any comments from owners who have removed their wonderbars?

Malc, I didn't instally my Wonderbar, but I can tell you its not going to b an easy job.

That turbo upgrade youre talking about is for the 87s. EricVonHa's car has that upgrade and he really made some good power on the dyno.

I think Sam(8388) installed his own Wonderbar.

Just had a look

It looks like it bolts in with 4 massive bolts. The bolts look quite accessible though I'll have to be careful around a couple of hoses and Callaway's suplementary oil pump.

If possible I want to remove the wonderbar with the car on the ground as I guess ther'll be a large section of crossmember missing when it's unbolted. Don't want it the car to twist so I can't get it back in again!

Waiting for some cr*p weather to do this as I don't like being off the road too long.

Malc,

I believe in addition to the bolts, there is some slight cutting that must be done to the frame members to get the wonder bar in. I have a picture somewhere which shows it from a car we were looking at when I visited Callaway last time.

Hi Luigi

what I'm intending to do is remove the old wonderbar and see if I can get larger inlet and outlet pipes welded in. I shouldn't have to do any cutting as I'll be reinstalling the same bar.

Looks like I'll have to measure up real careful though as clearance is very limited, especially where one of the turbo hoses runs between pulleys!

Malc, the gentleman representing the Blue Aerobody Vert at Barrett-Jackson said he installed the upgraded (BIG) Wonderbar in about 4 hrs on that car, having never worked on a Callaway before.

Hope this helps :beer
