I was picking up my C4 at Corvette Specialist in Riverside...and visiting with the dyno tune man about which corvette is the best bargin and has the most potential..
He said 99 or up C5 is the clear winner..
everyone agreed that the C6 improvements are mostly cosmetic..
yes we all know the horse power figures..
but for the money the 99 and up C5 has the right computer and motor to make it easy to hot rod....
i just thought id share:cool

(btw this place is off the hook..dozens of corvettes in various stages of restoration.)

Whatdaya mean-right computer?2002 had moreHP.Herea a quote from the L.A. HellsAngles ;whatdaya mean buy the word-right?The only thing we care about is what is RIGHT for us!:boogie

the computer in the 99 is the first year that you can re-program without changing the chip:cool

BS! All C5 PCMs are programmable. If you are referring to the old JET chips, they were a piggy-back system, not a replacement chip. 99 is however the first year of the non-return fuel rail system, which actually limits power potential. The hot setup for the big power blower cars is to either revert to a pre-99 2-line fuel rail system, or go aftermarket.

ok then...you and the tuner guy at riverside are opposed in your opinions...
perhaps he was just talking about the easiest one to tweak....
we talked about initial timing ..blah blah..air fuel mix...blah blah,,shift points..blah blah....but apparently the 99 and up can have the mix adjusted across the entire rpm range..
is this correct? if it is....then
for a stock car...the 99 is way more tune able than a pre 99 car..right?

because you dont have to add or take away anything..just change settings.....maybe

There are minor differences in the PCMs, parameters and codes, but all year C5s can be externally tuned with something like LS1 Edit or HP Tuners (better). It's possible he was talking about the easiest one to tweak. I don't have that level of detailed knowledge... I just write the checks. :L

well i dont generally trust everything everybody says(duh..lol) but this particular man is the dyno tune man in a corvette specialist shop...any year including present model...and they had some pretty impressive witnesses parked in the shop...i should have took my camera..
they built a C1 C2 C3 C4 C5...convertable...body parts from all those years and it looks good....C3 tail lights C4 clamshell with side pipes..a too much to list
the boss's custom C6 vert with the console shifter delete option, and " it cost way too much" paint job...and ..big block 4 speed tri powers....56 and 57's ... a split window on the rotisserie ready for suspension..its a pretty cool place..if you like corvettes....:cool

I live about as far as you can get from L.A. in the U.S. but corvette shops are around and they all have good 'tuners' I really think there are options for all year c5s-one is really not really better than another just my .2 L.A. womans gonna have to do!:)
