At work my 81 is well known and loved by everyone who sees her. Many co-workers say they would love to have one like her. I ask why they don't buy a new one? Their response..don't like the looks, always loved that style like yours, to me that is what a Corvette is supposed to look like. If GM made a retro to look like yours I would buy one then but not before.
With all the retro styling in the new cars, furniture, houses and clothes that is so popular now. This brings me to the question. IF GM made a retro C2 or C3 vette would you buy one.
Why or why not?

Not sure - so far out of all the retro styling the only one I even like is the Tbird. The GTO and Monte Carlo in the looks department are jokes I think. Why didn't they bring back the 66 or 67 GTO??

I don't think a retro Corvette would appeal. The Vette has always represented the most up to date and advanced technology available. Even the last of the C3's and C4's still looked fresh to me when they were replaced.

Going back would seem like a message that Corvette design is done, and now we have to restyle something that was really good cause we can't think of anything new.

I think that some retro vehicles are neat, like the look of the retro Mustang. However, a lot of the appeal of the new Stang is because the last generation looked so uninspired to me.

The C2 Vettes are still the most beautiful cars ever made (but that's colored by my experience with them, along with growing up around them). I'm not sure that I would want a retro of that car - if I want a C2, I'll go buy one (OK - I'd have to save a bit of cash first, but you know what I mean!).

Long and rambling, but here's hoping it carries some semblance of logic and reason.

No offence to newer Vette owners but I don't like the look of the Vette after the C3. I would definitely buy a new Vette with the body design of a C3 and the most upto date technology under the hood.

I don't know if I would buy one, but a dream project of mine has always been to build a GS replica on a modern chassis. These "retro" Vettes are becoming more popular with several of our members either building or have built them; poke around the C1-C2 tech forums to see what I mean.

Yeah, I would go for a retro. There's just something about the look of these cars, and all the new tech advances would make it a good car. Not one that most of us could work on but, a great car none the less. The ultimate Vette to me is a '57 on a late chassis. I have always loved the look of the '57. Oh yeah, I'd still keep my '79

in 1999 they made a prototype GTO that looked very similar to the '69. Never could figure out why they slapped the GTO name on the Holden. GM has royally screwed up recently, starting with killing off the RWD Caprice. Then it was the F body. Then they come out with the GTO. It's nice there's a new GTO, but it's about as exciting looking as a Cavalier. Ford gets it. I hate to say it, but they get it! the T-bird, the GT, and the new Mustang. Has anyone seen the new Shelby Mustang? $30k, looks like a GT350, and has the performance to back it up. I'd seriously consider getting one. Of course I'd keep the vette, but I don't understand why GM doesn't wake up. They touted the c6 as being "stingray looking". the only thing that looks even remotely similar to the stingray is the slanted rear end. other than that, I just don't get it.

couldn't agree more. the c-4 was crap in my opinion (I had a new '95, hated it). the c-5 was a little better, the c-6 went downhill.

C-3 with up to date technology!!! I love it! It doesn't even have to be super up to date. I'm not worried about being the fastest kid on the block. I just want my car to look good, have some pep, and easy for me to work on. Nothing else comes close to the curves on this baby. I can honestly not think of another car I would want to trade with.

I don't think the Retro Vette would work either unless it looked exactly like a C2 and that will not happen. To me the Mustang has never really changed all that much and it wasn't much of a strech to move to the retro look. What comes to mind if a car is white with blue stripes?

It is a matter of taste. I like the C3 the least. I think that it looks cartoonish. No flames, just my opinion. In contrast to some others, I really liked the C4. I think that the design of the car should consider function first, then form. The C3 came from a time when it was the other way around.

There are plenty of C3s out there to buy especially the later years. Updating technology is not that hard to do to our cars its just a matter of how many $$$ you have burning a hole in your pocket and whether or not you drink the NCRS punch--not a bad thing mind you, but not everything old is worthy of preservation. As to restos put out by major car companies, I think its lame. Time marches on and GM is pitiful enough as a company. Outside the Vette, trucks and a few Caddies the vast majority of vehicles they produce are not competitive with other companies' offerings and consumers are voting with their feet and $$$ mostly going elsewhere. Instead of firing 25,000 worker how about firing top management or at the very least pay them commensurate with the company's performance. As their market share sinks like a proverbial stone it would be only more pitiful if they fell back on rehashing old styling ideas. Time marches on and even though I have no interest in owning a new Vette (way too dependable, gas mileage too high, too many creature comforts including no butt fatigue on long drives, handles too well, not hot enough in the summer, the list goes on--all in all it makes me strong to deal with the discomfort and weekly glitches my 34 yr old car seems to constantly throw my way) I think the C6 is awesome and a very worthy successor to the earlier generations. Even more remarkable is that such a car was produced in the f***** up corporate culture that is 21st century GM. There is nothing quite like a bumper shark for style and the fact that their time has past only adds to their beauty, they are my hands down favorite. As to building new old vettes I vote a NO. Now a 1961 409/409 SS Impala or a 62 Catalina super duty, that would be a different story!

Or lack thereof, I'll take the 'cartoonish' C3 over the soulless C4's any day - thanks for crashing our party.

Pa Goose - I think the C3's are still too abundant to be 'retroed' They'd be the price of a C6 - don't think I'd get one for that reason alone. Just my opinion.

I'm not a big fan of retro. I say if you want it - get the real deal. I see the new Mustangs and think - cool, but there is something missing. Might be the nostalgia... I know no one spent hours under that hood tweaking it up.

No I would not. Corvettes are supposed to be performance cars. IMO there would be some compromise to putting out a new Vette in retro skin.

I really like the look of the new Mustang but not enough to cough up the cash to buy one. Instead I bought an old Vette.

Everything is retro these days. What's wrong - no one can come up with a new idea, or are they sure the retro will sell?

When I look at the new Vette I can tell it is a Corvette. Who needs to go back?

I think it is the latter, retro sells. Just don't bring back disco!!!!
I also like the new retro 70 stang. I had a 70 Mach 1 many years ago that got stollen while I was out to sea. Really liked it but I would not pay the $$$$$ for a new one.

no way ill buy an old looking new vette i think the c3 are the most beutifull of all corvettes(my opinion)but i think all vettes are nice including the c6 u have to go forward ,about the t-bird,gto being nice(they dont even look like the originals) please look at the sales, dealers are taking so much money off the price, the mustang its doing good but if u want to show an example of an old looking new car the nicest hands downare the daimler-chrysler(prowler,pt cruiser, magnum)and they didnt had to used a famous name to sale them my 2 cents
