I am in love with her already. 17,000 miles on the odometer and my first "six on the stick" (six speed) ever! Two things I need to find out: my cd player does not work. I have heard they usually have a problem with dust, etc. Is it common to have it repaired or just replaced it with something new? Also, it did not come with the tool to remove the top. Anyone have a good link on where to pick one up? For you guys that have been driving your LT-1s for a while, where are your basic shift points? For ex: if you are going about 60 mph and want to feel the power, is 2nd or 3rd going to be the best gear to downshift into? Thanks for the help. :pat

Welcome!!

As far as the power, if I am going a certain speed and I want to feel it I downshift at the following points:
below 30- 1st gear
30-40MPH- 2nd gear
50-60mph- 3rd gear
70-80mph, 4th gear

Of course, stay in the gear until you get to ~5700rpm before you shift if you're really trying to get the most out of her.

As far as the tool is concerned, the cheapest way is go get a 1/4" socket drive at the auto store and buy the right sized torx bit and a short extension. Probably cost you <$10 that way.

Good luck and enjoy you're new 'vette!!

Congrats JTB! Only 17k miles?? Sweet!! Bangin' gears on University Ave tonight, huh?...:cool

Congratulations on the purchase. I am sure you will have a lot of fun.
I usually get my parts from Davies Corvette in New Port Richey Fl. Their web site is www.corvetteparts.com. I know they have the tool. I have seen it in thier showroom. Unfornataly I was unable to locate it on their website. I am sure if you call them they will have it.

Enjoy the ride.

Flynbanjo and BTDOG thanks for the kind words and the recommendations! I will definitely pick up one of those to get that top off!
Dave C. '97 Z28, I got to try out some of those shift points tonight. I am probably more surprised how you can just leave her in 3rd @35mph or so for ex and put your foot down and have the torque just pull you right up to where the horsepower starts to really surge. It is a very user friendly automobile with gear selection!
Gman, yes I did cruise tonight and did not see one car worth mentioning...except a mean sounding 2000 or newer mustang/cobra? out near Waldo Road that did not want to bogey down. Maybe next time?!;shrug
