Somehow, I have the feeling this project would be beyond my means. The part that gets me is the seller talks about it possibly being a number-matching car. HA!

62 Corvette project on eBay

62Vette11.JPG

It's been a long time since I've seen one that bad.

Yikes!!!

$5655.00 and there's still 6 days 8 hours to go!:(

Did I ever Publicly thank Roy (mailmaninavette) for finding my project car?THANK YOU ROY!

If Roy had not found my 62 I would of been all over that car on ebay.

Right now there are 2 other project C1's on ebay.

You know I hate to comment on active ebay auction,But its so hard not to when the sellers give you so much information to comment on

You know the car is what it is,No reason to fluff it,saying the car is 75% done is silly and insulting. If that car is 75% done then my car is 150% done and I only have another 450% more to go until I can drive it,

I would say the biggest problem with this car is it does not have a title. And because of that reason only I may have passed on it

Again the car is what it is and they should leave it as that and it will go for some good dollars to a dummy like me

I might be CRAZY but I dont think it looks so bad

But then again the body shop owner who is doing my car said

"You better get Glasses before you purchase another vette or bring some one with you who can actually see"

It depends on what you are going to do with it. It would have a long hard road for a NCRS type but a Hot Rod going on an aftermarket frame it might just be the ticket. Its an early block most likely a forged small journal crank which could be cleaned up and sold to finance the project.

Heck...that thing will hit $12k before its all said and done! No one likes to hear this but for the same money, I'll have a new body (yes, I know, I know...it's a replica..not the real thing) on a custom built rolling chassis.

I realize that the aficionados will be disgusted with me but I simply will never have $50k to buy a C2 but could at least get the "look" of the car in a custom built package built the way I want it, and isn't that what this is all about. I certainly have no interest trying to pass my custom built off as being original, I just love the looks of the old Vettes and realize I will never get there. Great example, an acquintance of mine just bought a 67 big block convertible with a 4 speed that has about 40k miles on it...guess how much that must have went for? There is no doubt that I love the original cars and wouldn't imagine what it must be like to actually own one but in order for me to get the "essence" of what it is like, I don't mind settling for a custom built replica.

Doesn't look bad to me either. I looked for YEARS for a 62 automatic project car. Finally gave up and bought a 2000 C5 "driver".

I would have been VERY interested in that car, BUT, the lack of a VIN number and lack of a title would have turned me off. 62's are RED HOT. Can't touch a reasonably nice one for much less than 35K. I'll bet this one goes for a price much higher than anyone expects.

Wonder if the owner knows that the VIN is on the steering column, not in the door jamb?

AND, it just MIGHT have the original engine block. Wonder if the owner knows that the VIN derivitive should be stamped on the pad? Chuck

Chuck, I suspect he doesn't know much if anything about the VIN locations. In reading the text (which might be 100% fluff) he says he took the car in trade and the way he talks about it, I suspect he has no idea whatsoever.

ps: currently at $6800; reserve met.

I looked at the pictures as close as I can and I don't see the VIN tag on the column. I would have to see the VIN on the frame before I put one penny in this car. If it's a clean VIN at least you could get it titled. I especially like the sheet metal and screws repair of the trans tunnel around the shifter hole. A nice touch. The front bumper removal was a common mod in the day on drag cars. I don't think I could ever warm up to that hood though. It would make a good start for a hot rod '62.

Hey! How come the left side of the trunk lid doesn't stick up a little (referring to another thread on here)...that must make it original and unhit!

Hey, it was no problem to get the trunk lid to fit like that, look at how much repair work has been done on both sides of the rear of that car! There must be 5 lbs of extra fiberglass in those quarters.

AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES IT IS ALL MOSTLY THERE. THE MOTOR DOES NOT TURN OVER.

Mostly there! Ha. Why would a rusty old short block turn over?
I bet he's offering free delivery at that price! Nice wheels! I wouldn't buy anything on ebay.

e-Bay is a good place to buy most anything....Just make sure you can use PayPal to pay for it....then you will have some recoarse to get your money back....
:upthumbs for e-Bay

Mike

Up to $8300 with 5 days left. The reserve has been met. I'll go out on a limb and say I bet it will go for low to mid teens.

The front bumper "cut out" is an OLD mod....I remember that being the "hot lick" for old customs. Chuck

This is a bad idea

I'm very surprised there are buyers willing to bid thousands for this car. It's not the BS description or the condition that makes me say that, it's the potential for a title disaster. This '62 had a VIN at one time. The tag may be gone from the column now, but that doesn't mean it was never there.

My guess is that one of the VIN derivative stampings on the frame is legible. If the new owner goes to register the car and the VIN comes up hot, the police will take it immediately. What will the buyer think of his low buck project car then? He'll have to sue the seller to recover any of his money because the last titled owner of this car will get it back for free.

It's also possible that this VIN-less '62 body is sitting on an earlier frame. If so, such a pile of parts will probably never have a legitimate 1962 VIN (or title) issued to it again.

Agree with you 100%, Jerry. I wouldn't buy the car without looking at it or having somebody check it out for me. Also, I wouldn't buy it until I checked the VIN and "ran it".

That being said, EBAY creates "madness". :) Remember the $500.00 BB dipstick that sold? It was the same current day replacement dipstick that you could buy for about $8.00 at your local Chevy dealer. Chuck
