Welcome to the Corvette Forums at the Corvette Action Center!

wow... some kinda project...

I hope the madness continues. I plan on liquidating my vast collection of junk to pay for the rebuild of my '59. If you can get $500. for a dipstick I wonder how much I can get for my complete '61 270 horse engine. Maybe I can retire. :D

Good descriptions = fair prices

I think eBay items usually sell for about as much as they would bring at a swap meet if they're described accurately. The biggest benefit to me is the ability to sell my parts any time of year without having to lug them all over the country.

Those outrageously high auction prices often result from the seller misleading the buyer. Intentionally or not, the seller can under/over-describe his parts and get more for them. For example, that $500 dipstick was called "NOS" in the description. This implies to most people that it is a New Old Stock GM part that is no longer available.

I also see auctions with photos of badly flawed parts that contain no mention of the flaws in the text. Try reading that '62 Corvette description and envisioning the car without relying on the photos. The text sure creates a different mental picture, doesn't it?

True enough. So either he was stupid when he accepted an untitled car missing it's VIN OR he thought he could title it and was unable to do so OR he figured he could sell it on eBay with a fluffy description. :(

I could be a collection of parts left over from a few C1 restorations too or it could have been a parts car that was stripped to help build a nice car.

Good point. I hadn't considered that. Some of the 'project Vettes' on eBay lately had to be exactly that. :(

Maybe I am as sick as I have been told. I don't think that car is all that bad. If it where a 58 to 60 I would be all over that. As far as the bumpers being sectioned out. That was very common on drag cars. I would love to make a gasser out of that car. Tube axle, small block with a hillborn injector. Hell I even like the hood.

It's up to $8500 and change. Chuck

ALMOST $9000.00 with 1 1/2 days left. Chuck

Gee MAC go ahead and buy it. Then send a letter off to "PIMP MY RIDE" and have them customize it for you. I can see it now, MP4 player, 20 inch rims and tires, Caribou leather covered seats, Painted CMP RED, Blue Light bar, Fender mounted siren, And a Canadian flag for the convertible top. Yeah, Pimp My Ride!!!!;)

The EBAY auction ended early because "the item is no longer for sale". I guess it was sold at the dealership, so we'll never know the selling price. :) Chuck

I would say he was offered at least $2,000.00 above the highest bid to end the auction earley.

It would of been foolish to end it for anything less with the auction ending so soon.

Just my guess

Ken - I ran out to the newstand last night and picked up the Feb 2005 issue of "Vette"....Yup...tha's what I'm talking about! Nowwwww.....my ride will cost about one decimal place to the left less than those rides, but the concept is the same. Having access to parts beyond the ones that I have, I would guess I have the parts already to equip a custom frame with the full complement of C4 components. My idea is to have the "essence" of the car but being able to finance it on my public servants salary (lol)
