Need a new windshield for my '90 due to an unfortunate rock encounter. Year-correct large cutout preferred, but will consider small.

Sorry I can't help you with the windshield, but you got my curiosity up. I didn't realize there were differences in the C4 windshields. What cutout are you referring too?
Thanks,
Ken

Ken,
The ZR1s have unique windshields. Because the A/C compressor for the LT5 engine had to be downsized to fit in the engine galley (GM didn't want to retool a new clamshell hood for engine clearance), there is not enough cooling capacity under full sun load conditions. Their solution was a special metallic solar film laminated windshield to reduce cabin heat build-up. Since this metallic solar film also blocked speed radar waves, there was a cut-out area of film so radar detectors could still be used (a design feature probably unknown to the GM Legal Dept.). The size of the cut-out was larger in the early years, and then was reduced to a smaller size later.

Of course, like almost all of the unique-to-ZR1 parts, these are no longer available from GM Parts.
