I recently had to change out the radio in my 2006 that had XM. The new radio was an OEM with same GM part # and now the XM doesn't show up! I was told the XM antenna is seperate than the radio itself and has to be reactivated! Anyone have a comment to help or experienced the same issue? Thanks in advance.

Prior to the change, XM would show up as a band and it showed the XM identification number which you need to subscribe. Now when I scroll through the bands, XM doesn't show! That's why I'm thinking its the attenna signal. Thanks

You might want to make sure that the radio supports XM. If it is the correct radio, then you should be able to see the XM band even if the antenna is not connected.

If I remember correctly, the 2006 'Vettes had the XM antenna on the B-pillar. Should be the only antenna on the car, unless you've got Onstar too.

If the new radio has the same number as old, it is correct. It is one of two things causing this issue.
The new radio needs to be told there is a DRR (digital radio receiver) and that programming is done with a Tech2 under optional modules.
Or the DRR isn't powered up, try removing power to the DRR (XM module) for a minute , via the fuse or disconnecting it and then power back up, sometimes they get locked up and cycling power to them wakes it up.
I will check the tech2 tomorrow at work and confirm if the radio needs to be programmed, if not, the DRR is the issue.

I should have mentioned in previous reply, the antenna is not the issue, if it was you would get a "no signal" or "XM loading" display on the radio.

I know its been awhile, but I pulled the RDO 15 AMP fuse, waiting a few minutes - reinstalled and still had no change. Did you ever check the tech2 and confirm if programming is required. I'm thinking that's the case. Thanks in advance.

All I can say is beware of XM radio.. I will not ever use thier product again. Be careful if you do a year contract, they send you a bill, you don't send a check they turn you into a collection agency. Anyone else would just cut the service. Not them you have to pay them whatever they charge you to get them off your credit report.. Screw them big time. I will tell everyone I get a chance to tell..........:puke

No programming in tech 2, it appears the DRR in dead. You could verify you have power and ground to the DRR, if yes, you'll need a new module.

H ithere,
Hold on a minute.

First, the VIN is critical and must be programmed to the radio as the BCM holds the RPO configuration.

Second, there IS PROGRAMMING and it MUST be done correctly for it to work.

Third, a Tech 2 will find the DRR and the Radio, confirm communications and if the programming is NOT correct, the vehicle will set codes in some modules.

When installing a new DRR, the ignition cycle burns the vehicle vin into it, that is why they cannot be swapped from another vehicle.

There isn't any programming for a DRR, just install and contact XM with the original radio ID and the new radio ID.

If you have access to a tech 2, you can see if you have communication with the DRR, it appears based on the description given, it sounds like the DRR is at fault, providing there is power, ground and low speed dataline communication at the DRR.

If it were a vin issue, you would see a XM theftloc display.

If still having problems, take it to your local GM dealership for a correct diagnosis.

HI there,

As I stated, you must set up your radio upon installing it in the vehicle with a Tech 2. Once you set it up with a Tech 2, you should not have any further issues.
