Well, I've had our Anniversary Convert for a month or more and FINALLY got her out on a little road run today.

To be honest, I haven't been all that impressed with her. She rides like a BuckBoard and esp. around town. Any bump is like driving over the Grand Canyon ... it's rough, I MEAN IT'S ROUGH.

I was beginning to think RARE would stay and "Abby" would have to go. After todays little run of about 80 miles or so, I decided to quarry the Corvette Action Center C5 Forums about the Rough Ride. So, I type in Rough Ride C5 in the C5 Forums Search... and low and behold I found Shock Stuffers so out to the garage and I look up at the shocks and guess what... YEP a YELLOW Tag hanging down from each shock :eyerole ;squint:

Abby has 24,000+ miles on her :chuckle and had 2 previous owners :chuckle I bet the reason she lost her prior homes... she road to dam rough :boogie

THANKS to The Corvette Action Center and everyone's knowledge and experience I think I found out why my Abby has been a foster child :D Tomorrow I am calling the Chevrolet Garage and see if they will finish the Final Detail for delivery (remove the Shock Stuffers).. If not,... surely they will at least charge me just minimum labor to remove them :ohnoes

Once again the Corvette Action Center comes through :upthumbs ... Oh I took the back "Mud Flaps" off too, now I need to get one side patched as it looks like they drilled a 1/4" hole before they mounted one side :mad I left the front ones on, as they don't look too bad, and actually will keep some spray and small rocks and stones from marring up the side panel and doors..

THANKS

Bud

Others have reported finding the shock stuffers. It is amazing it took until the 3RD!!! owner to find and remove them.

:w Randy,

I agree, but then again.... Maybe the previous owners didn't belong to The Corvette Action Center Community ;) :upthumbs

Bud

I've heard of that Bud but I just can't imagine a dealer overlooking that as they prep the car for sale!
:w Jim,

hmmm Maybe a few Car Dealers should join the Corvette Action Center ;) :boogie

We do have a few talented and knowlegable folks here :upthumbs Including a World Class GM Mechanic ;)

Bud

Hey Bud,

Glad to hear you found out about the shock stuffers. :upthumbs

Wow, I wonder if that's a record for having them left on the car ! :ugh
Hopefully it will drive much better when they're gone.

Hey Bud,

Glad to hear you found out about the shock stuffers. :upthumbs
And Thank YOU for the Corvette Action Center...

I may end up in enjoying the 21st Century yet... with a 21st Century Corvette :chuckle

Bud

Just proves what almost 40 years in the repair business taught me: always look for the simplest and easiest answer! ;LOL

Congratulations, Bud, on making your discovery! The C5 should ride like a Cadillac. You should really enjoy your toy, now!

SAVE THE :w

Now that you're an Annie owner, check out www.50thregistry.com.

Glad you found the shock stuffers. The AE's are great cars with a great ride - except when the damn dealer leaves the shock stuffers in. And to hear about one still having them 5 years later is a crime.

:upthumbs

"Abby" is a keeper ;) WHAT a DIFFERENCE!!!

Got her back early this afternoon, and went for a short :Steer :chuckle I can't believe ANYONE would put up with the ride it had before the Shock Stuffer's were removed :nono

:D Bud :D

Oh ... No $$$ exchanged hands .... and dealer mech/tech couldn't believe it either... 24,000+ miles; 5 Years and 5 months since Delivery :chuckle They also threw in a 27 Multi Point Inspection FREE :D (and Abby passed with flying colors ;) )

Now that's good news Bud :upthumbs it is hard to believe that it took so long to find the shock stuffers. I will tell ya though the Chevrolet dealer in Bowling Green is pretty disappointing. I've had the 02 in there 3 times for the same issue, and it's still unresolved, so maybe I shouldn't be that surprised at what you found. :boogie

ride quality

My 85 rode like a pick-up truck. My 05 with the F55 rode like an old Caddy, even on sport. I love my Z51 now. Perfect compromise. My 350Z will beat you up on anything but the smoothest roads but makes a perfect track car. Its also very durable where as the vette feels more at home as a GT touring car.

You should have, for all practical purposes, new shocks on that car when you remove the stuffers..........

Bud, I was in Florida last week (and going thru LARGE quantities of $3.55/gal 93 octane while there), and was wondering how you were making out with the new addition. Glad to hear that you got the shock stuffers out and are finally getting to enjoy the car the way it's supposed to be!
