Were you having trouble with the nitrous in non-overdrive gears or just in overdrive?

No I never used the NOS in overdrive:eyerole . Just kidding, I actually cracked the ring between the manual and the overdrive unit. from there the problems just mounted. I fixed the problems by totaling the car out:bang. I do not recomend this procedure. http://members.aol.com/crosschkm/My_S_wrecked_86.htm

Sam,

I just got off of the phone with Brian over at SK. He said the clutches have been out for a few years now. He said a couple of things that peaked my attention. If you have anything to add to this I'd love to hear it.

1. The bronze clutches should really only be used for road racing and they can cause damage in the transmission itself if not used properly as they engage so damn hard. In fact his exact quote was "These things really only should be used if you're a masochist.":L

2. The 4+3 is only good for 375hp and thats IT as the aluminum housing of the overdrive can't take anymore. That isn't disheartening to hear considering I'm already over that limit.

3. He strongly strongly strongly discouraged me from having the entire transmission cryo treated. He said to go ahead with the 4-speed, but was nervous as hell about the o-rings and glue on the clutches in the overdrive failing if exposed to liquid nitrogen. I was going to use www.deepfreezecryo.com and I don't think their cryo process is a liquid dip.

Thanks. :w

Yep, those clutches along wih the mods to the OD will engage hard, but I figure for my application and racing it should turn out to be perfect. I basically granny shift into gear then apply the pedal and let the torque pull the car along. This is where the TT will benefit the most from the bronze gear if they actually do hold without slipping.

Another note, as you know, the more power you make the more heat you'll generate. I plan on using an extra cooler in line with the radiator to further help with the temperatures. I highly recommend you incorporate another cooler as well. Heat is usually the biggest enemy. Even the viscosity of the trans fluid is affected, resulting in lower pressures, a big no no when engaging the OD under power.

Cryo is very interesting. A buddy of mine is currenlty experimenting with it on a 700r4.

Have you thought about where you might mount the new cooler? I've got the power steering cooler on my car in what probably would of been the best spot. Maybe just toss it between the condensor and radiator?

I run mobil 1 synthetic ATF as it is right now in the OD. How cool can you get the ATF before it is "too" cool? Or is there no such thing?

Definitely let me know how your buddys 700 works out. JBurnett at deepfreeze says he does tons of automatics and he is extremely well versed all around, but Brian has me scared now and I don't know if I should be or not.

Brian has a pretty good idea of whats going on with these things. They see an aweful lot of them. My 88 TT is a Z52, so I'll more than likely use a (Z51) factory pw steering cooler since there's not one in that location. The front is pretty congested. I would even look at the possibilty of running one right under the gas tank, some newer B&M plate style coolers (very efficient)have a fan already mounted on them.

I don't think it's a problem but if i don't see any change why bother to change a reply anyway? :)
